I feel sorry for child actors altogether... It's like no matter what they do they cannot escape the first memorable roles they have played.
For Instance:
Haley Joel Osment: The Sixth Sense
Daniel Radcliffe: Harry Potter
Emma Watson: Harry Potter
Tom Felton: Harry Potter
Rupert Grint: Harry Potter
Lindsay Lohan: The Parent Trap
Jake Richardson: Honey We Shrunk Ourselves
Jeremy Sumpter: Peter Pan
Mary Kate and Ashley: Full House & those mystery movies
i'm hoping the harry potter kid dissappears a few years, grows up, and becomes britain's hot new 20something actor jejeje
as for lindsey lohan...really? i think she's hardly ever associated with that film, and now she's just another teenybopper star.

I personally think alot of those child actors are cute.. and Thank god all of them are about my age.. so I wont really look weird saying I think one guy is cute and he is way younger than me.
This has no reason to be on the main message board, please don't post things here that have nothing to do with Broadway at all. That is what the off-topic board is for.
Tom Felton is and will always be...
Peagreen Clock in my mind. I watched "The Borrowers" too much when I was little...thank Collins, I'm 16 and mature *she said as she dances to the chant in the "Secret garden" movie...*
How 'bout a partial thread-jack then? Talk about BROADWAY child actors, and how tough THAT is....
I have no idea whatever happened to:
Frankie Michaels (as Patrick Dennis in "Mame"). He is the youngest performer ever to win a Tony (Age 10).
What about some of tatlented girls who played Annie in the original run? (Other than Andrea and SJP.)
Or the original children in Les Miz? (Donna Vivino, Chrissie McDonald and Braden Danner)
Even Daisy Egan is working hard to stay in the limelight, it seems. So far so good (at least regionally)
Do most of them quit the biz? Or are some still around and working? They all had big moments in the spotlight. Any other favorite child performances from year's past?
I'd love to know...
Of the people on your list, I disagree with most of your assessments that they're having a hard time overcoming their first roles.
Mary Kate and Ashley have a company that makes millions. Lindsay Lohan seems to be everywhere these days.
Of the Harry Potter kids, I think Emma Watson will have the most success later in life. However, they've not really had time to do many other projects. The breaks between filming those movies is quite short, and most of the kids (based on what I've read) have just taken the time off.
Peter Pan is less than two years old. Let's not write off Jeremy Sumpter's career just yet.
Haley Joel Osment is too good an actor to not have success later in life. In fact, his current hiatus has been self-imposed because he wanted to finish school.
Someone mentioned Frankie Michaels, who won a Tony for Mame. He left the business and has since become a very successful attorney in California. I read that in a book entitled "But Darling, I'm Your Auntie Mame." I have no idea about any of the other Broadway actors mentioned (but isn't there a website for the Annie orphans somewhere?)
I know Donna Vivino was in Saturday Night Fever when it played on Broadway and she is also interviewed in the book Making it to Broadway.
In her interview, she talks about her good friend Daisy Eagen. I feel Daisy Eagen is one of the best child actors of all time to ever star on Broadway. I watched her on the It Factor (all grown up) and I couldnt believe she had so much trouble finding work. I hope she comes back to Broadway someday. I bet she blossomed into an amazing adult actress.
A lot of them decide against going into the business after working as a child. I saw a spread in People about all of the child actors in Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder version) and none of them were acting anymore.
Donna Vivino was in THE OPPOSITE OF SEX. She is gorgeous now and has a fantastic voice.
She wasnt a kid..well im not quite sure what the hell she was when I saw her, but that evil little girl that played red riding in Into the Woods. She never really did much I dont think.
side note- i really think that child actors should not be given equity cards, or minimally not permanent ones. It takes actors years to earn them and some kid who played simba at some point will have one forever
So what? They earned that role. Plenty of adults get their Equity cards with their first professional jobs.
And what about Patty Duke, Andrea McArdle, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Daisy Eagan? Did they not deserve Equity cards?

That is so wrong!! Children have earned it by working hard just like the adults. Most of these children did not just wake up one morning and say, "gee mom, can I be in a play on Broadway?" Most have started out doing Community Theater, perfecting thier skills etc. Really not too dfferent than what adult actors do.
By the way, I beleive when a child is in a Broadway show, they are required to join Equity.
Just my opinion.
OT: Hilary Duff - Lizzie McGuire
Donna Vivino is playing Shelley in Hairspray right now. I've seen her twice, she's my favorite actress to play the part!

Danielle Ferland, the original Little Red in INTO THE WOODS, has consistently appeared either on or off-Broadway for the past several years, most recently on Broadway in A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD and off Broadway at Irish Rep's SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER.
Shelley Bruce, an original orphan in "Annie" and the actress who succeeded Andrea McArdle in the title role is a published author who now works for William Berloni Theatrical Animals, a connection she no doubt made while doing the original "Annie". I have heard that she and her mother supervised the animals in the revival of "Gypsy." Allison Smith, another Broadway Annie has had significant success on television, from regular roles on "Kate and Allie" to "The West Wing".
I have heard that Braden Danner is a minister now.
It's hard for ANY actor to remain in the limelight, let alone a child. But after school and tasting normalcy, many young people choose to take the experience of being in professional theatre and move on to something else, not exactly a failure on their part. How difficult it must be for those who try to stay in the business, now in their 20's, 30's and 40's, when the peak moment in their career happened when they were 10! No wonder many quit while they're ahead and take the experience with them into another field.
In terms of movie actors, I disagree on the assessment of Lindsay Lohan and the Olsen twins. I don't even think people remember that Lohan was in "The Parent Trap." She is the current teen queen and her next movie is with Meryl Streep. As for the Olsens, they are on the covers of the gossip magazines nearly every week now with NYU and the eating disorder and the money and the clothes. It's also way too soon to tell for the "Harry Potter" kids since the "HP" shooting schedule probably doesn't leave them much time to explore other projects. I think Emma Watson especially is talented enough to find other roles. The interesting one to watch over the next decade or so will be Dakota Fanning, I think. Don't forget that Jodie Foster started out as a child and certainly overcame her earlier roles.
In terms of theatre actors, you'll find that a lot of famous people started out in at least community or regional productions of plays because they were interested in acting from very early on. Alyssa Milano and Molly Ringwald were both in touring companies of "Annie." Lacey Chabert was Baby June in the "Gypsy" TV movie and was a Young Cosette and she has certainly done well for herself. Eden Riegel was another Young Cosette and gained fame and a Daytime Emmy as Susan Lucci's daughter on "All My Children." Kristen Alderson from the "Annie" revival is also in soaps now. Christy Carlson Romano, before she ruined Belle, was in a touring company of "The Sound of Music" and did "Parade" on Broadway. Then she gained fame for "Even Stevens" and "Kim Possible." Don't forget that Daisy Eagan was on Broadway in "James Joyce's The Dead." I agree that her career should be flourishing but it's better than nothing.

Anyone, child or adult, is required to be a member of Equity when joining a Broadway show. To suggest that they shouldn't receive one merely by the fact that they are a child is absurd. Some people start sooner than others. Not everyone gets to Broadway. Not everyone gets to Hollywood.
HJO will be known for the 6th Sense, but he's done a lot, and he really is a talanted actor who I can see going far. For insance, Elijah Wood sort of disappeared for a while, and then came back from LOTR and boom, is back on top.
Daniel Radcliffe is working on a new movie, December Boys, in between Harry Potters.
To all of you who weighed in about Broadway child actors, thanks for your info. I find it fascinating. I'm glad to hear they're out there "doin' their thing," whether it's still in the biz or not.
How about any other theatre favorites?
What happened to the original Broadway "Oliver" (Bruce Prochnik)?
Some young lad named Davy Jones played the Artful Dodger in that same OBC. And nobody's heard from him since (joke!---This is Davy Jones of The Monkees.) Paul O'Keefe and Ronnie Kroll were replacement Olivers during the original run. (Paul was Patty Duke's kid brother on her '60s TV show.) The previously-mentioned Braden Danner from Les Miz was Oliver in the 1984 revival (with LuPone and Moody).
What about other theatre kids? Anna Kendrick seems to be doing well (from High Society). She was a hoot in the movie "Camp," a couple of years ago.
Any others???

Culkin has tried to get back into acting, but I think that has all but failed (Party Monster notwithstanding).
