Riedel is such a fool.
He says "Unless you’ve got connections, tickets are impossible to come by."
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Tickets are readily available in London, even on day of performance.
If this does open in fall 2019, it'll be the 40th anniversary of Evita's opening on Broadway.

LOL this is kind of hilarious. Even rush tickets are easy to get! smh Riedel
Bummed it won't be this season.
I hope this sells over here. The Esparza revival, as wonderful as it was, was a major flop.

All of Marianne Elliott's shows have begun in London -- she's British, the Bobbie she was basing it around is British, her design team is British, and she's producing it. It's also cheaper to produce a musical in London than it is in NY. And because the financial stakes are higher in NY, they can work out some kinks in London.
Also, I feel like because of the unknown nature of this "revisal," Sondheim would never have allowed it to open cold in New York (where he is most known and loved). If not London, then it probably would have played a regional theatre somewhere.
Was on ATC recently and people kept referring to LuPone's performance in the NPH Company as if her current performance isn't anything new....while I get it makes sense to feel that you've already 'seen' the performance, the performance in this production feels completely different and has a completely different tone.....she doesn't perform the song the same way (e.g., is sat down singing the song to Bobbie and it is a bit more understated compared to standing stage centre and belting), she looks completely different (and a bit older - coupled with a younger husband). There actually is a set etc.
It's not the same performance or interpretation. Kind of like when LuPone went from the NYPhil Sweeney concert into the Doyle Sweeney. Not the same performance.
LuPone is famous for her evolving interpretations of characters. Her three Roses (Ravinia, City Center, and Broadway) were pretty much all completely different, and got better with each production.
And as you mentioned, she iconically adapted her Lovett to fulfill Doyle’s specific vision. Many were doubtful at first, but it was incredible how utterly different her Lovett was from the Phillharmonic.

this is so true of Patti...i saw the very first week of EVITA in San Francisco in 1979 and she was terrible and so was the show, but when i went back the final week pf performances before transferring on its way to Broadway. she and the show became EVITA...she had found her voice in that show and the show knew what it was about...Patti is a transformative actor that can adjust to each role...
I saw both her Joannes and they are, in fact, quite different.
And her growth as Mama Rose from City Center to Broadway is legendary.

I would be very concerned if an actor’s performance did not differ when the staging, context, director’s vision, and cast for it changes significantly as is true for LuPone and her various outings as Joanne. Updated On: 11/5/18 at 01:23 PM

I love that choreography! Though the trenchcoat costume choice is...interesting. Gah I wish I could get to London!
I mean, I'd hope most actors performances would change from 3 different productions, etc. I'm not sure that's just true of LuPone, and I say that as a huge fan. And I cannot wait for Company to come over.
Patti is hilariously sounding off on Trump again:

She is an absolute icon and speaking the truth for us in the states. Thank you, Patti!

Saw this for the third time today. As good as some of it is, I do hope a few things are changed should it transfer.
The staging of Another Hundred People desperately needs attention. It goes on and on forever and the choreography of people on the train cars is laughable as is the closing cluster of presumably everyday New Yorkers standing in the shadows waiting for the frigging song to end.
Rosalie Craig delivers a fine performance, but is very replaceable as none of her choices or capabilities are particularly unique to her.
The changes in the script during the final bar exchange between Bobbie and Joanne needs some work. Joanne offering up Larry for Bobbie to sleep with sounds so out of place and unexpected. It does not have the emotional or psychological effect of Joanne offering herself up to Bobby personally.
From a humor standpoint, most of the scenes with Peter and Susan do not work at all either. So recasting and some attention is definitely needed there.
And finally JB. I love Jonathan Bailey, but if he is going to transfer someone needs to sit him down and talk about dialing back some of his now manic and excessive nature. He is so frantic now that he is losing some of the humor that would result from more contrast and buildup. He was borderline spastic throughout his big number today and with his line delivery throughout the book scenes that surround it.
Overall the staging remains inventive, the gender change freshens the materials in interesting ways, but I would not give this production a very long NYC run if it is not improved.

I saw it a few weeks ago and agree with your observations.
The gender swapping works so well but interestingly enough though the person I saw it with is now the description of the lead (an unmarried 35 y/o New York female feeling pressure to settle down, marry, have kids, etc.) but did not feel connected to it at all. She felt the production chooses staging over investing in the character and I agree. I hope this gets a closer look as well if and when it transfers.

I definitely felt that way the first two times I saw it, but today I was in the 4th row of the stalls (as opposed to previously being much further back). Here I could see more of Craig's facial expressions and emotions in play. I still think your friend is right, but seating may affect how much some people connect with Bobbie.
Absolutely amazing news!!! They are going to film the upcoming cast recording sessions for a documentary about the production. What an unbelievably exciting nod to the original documentary.

What exciting news! I’m sure they’ll reference the original, though I’d love to see them try and treat Patti the way they did Stritch. There’s no way she’d stand for it!

This photo of Patti in the recording studio already seems iconic:

Also, Patti mentioned briefly having an LSD trip in Central Park. Only Patti LuPone would disclose this, LOL!
