The shorter preview period and late opening certainly seems to indicate that Cromer will be hopping immediately into rehearsal as soon as Good Night is frozen. A wild spring season for him!
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Sidenote: this might become the most exciting musical season we've had since 2016-17, what a stacked lineup! Last season had a large slew of intriguing titles, but a lot of them seemed to underwhelm many in the end.
Now what we need is for Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande to cohost the next Tonys so that people can see just how incredible the selection is this time around!
I had DBH pegged as frontrunner when we were more uncertain about MHE's viability to run til the Tonys. But if it can make it all the way to June, I think MHE would have a VERY good chance of winning, partially also with the goodwill of it being "the little show that could".
This is fantastic news! Saw it twice and absolutely loved it. One of my favorite new shows I've seen in years. Fingers crossed the concept, cast, and crew remain the same!

I mean, Dead Outlaw is also small, weird, and critically acclaimed.

Oh yes I agree, but given the uphill battle that MHE would've had for 8 months at that point, it might tip the scales in their favor? I still think it could go either way but just speculating.

I imagine that 8 months of the same narrative might actually work against it.

And MHE has to make it to June for this to even be a factor, which is far, far from a sure thing even with its growing box office.

Agreed. The verdict is still out on its commercial draw. With Boop, Smash, Buena Vista, Curves all coming in Spring, it will be work to pierce through for any new musical.
This show felt decidedly downtown to me when I saw it. Small and scrappy in a great way. But, it was also one of the top 3 shows I saw this year. It's in great shape, so I don't think it'll be hurt by the short preview period.
I said it in another thread Yesterday. But, The Dead Outlaw vs. Operation Mincemeat vs. Maybe Happy Ending TOny race is easily the strongest and most competitive since 2017. Three fantastic, hilarious, heartfelt, full-package nerdicals battling it out.

Both are just commercial vehicles looking to cash in a their name. I wouldn't expect much in terms of Tony nominations from either.
