two questions for anyone who has rushed it:
1. can I use a credit card or is it cash only?
2. were the seats ok? (as in not partial view)

I saw the show last night and counter those who say it's mainly directed at teens. I think parents of teens can certainly relate to the difficulties that beset parent-child relationships and the frustrations they feel when they can't connect to their kids who are obviously in pain. It was a moving experience with a very listenable score and spot-on performances from all concerned, especially Ben Platt. Unlike some others here, I liked Will Roland's Jared; he seemed an authentic "family friend" with no bones about being a close buddy. And he did provide the lighter moments that provided some comic relief in this serious-themed show. (Note:My seatmate introduced herself as Roland's mother; she was bursting with pride, happiness and hopes that her son's first meaty role will lead to more.) The audience was attentive and respectful; no outbursts except at the end during the standing ovation.

According to Second Stage's website, all non-premium tickets are sold out for the remainder of the run. I imagine an extension is inevitable.

I did the student rush and was able to pay with my card. My seat was about six or so rows up on the house left, but I know other rush-ers were spread out based on seat availability.

as i said weeks ago, my understanding from those connected to 2ST is that they cannot accommodate an extension. this will be it. this is the run. was also told that a month ago, so who knows? maybe they found a way to rework the calendar but i don't think so...

Nonprofit productions almost always work an optional 1-2 week extension periods into their contracts, especially if it is assumed that the production will be a hit. With nearly 3 months between the scheduled closing date and the next production in this space, I would really be shocked if they didn't add at least a week or two.

I was just looking into getting a ticket for the last week of the run and it seems that they are extending a week, if I'm seeing things correctly.
It think it was originally supposed to close on the 22nd but I see at 11am tomorrow, 4/28, they are releasing tickets for another week of shows.

great news! I hope this is not the final/only 1-week extension, as I will be in town right after Memorial Day weekend...

Any inside information on whether they're making a cast recording? I assume if it goes to Broadway they'll just do one with that cast, but if it doesn't I really want a recording!
I was told the they were waiting to see if it transfers so the recording would be of the Broadway cast.
According to the website, tickets are available for another week, so it appears the show has extended until May 29th rather than the previous 22nd

tonight is the official opening. congratulations to all at DEAR EVAN HANSEN for, in my opinion, an incredible musical that deserves to see the lights of broadway. can't wait to see what the critics have to say.
I'm really hoping that if there's a delay or indecision about Broadway, they'll just record the Off-Broadway cast and leave it at that. I'm thinking...Urinetown and Bloody Bloody AJ as examples? I think those were "original cast recordings" but recorded before the Broadway runs.
I saw this in previews and loved it. Can't wait to see it again in a few weeks. Hoping this transfers...
I am starting to really want to see this show. Everyone is gushing about Ben Platt's performance and saying it's transcendent, and I am just curious if anyone can elaborate what is particularly special about his portrayal?

Not even one of the best musicals Off-Broadway right now, but it's one of the best musicals of the entire season here in New York.
I found this great review on Everyday Broadway that I think says it really well. Have a read! http://www.everydaybroadway.com/dear-evan-hansen-modern-chilling-teenage-drama/

Did you ever see him as Elder Cunningham? It's basically like that, only more unadorned and a little more down-to-earth.
He sweats. A lot. Not since seeing Alice Ripley in N2N have I been as concerned about someone's personal well-being playing a role 8 times a week!

Really hoping that this extends for a mother 2 weeks or so; or at least does indeed go to Broadway in the near future.
Total rave from Isherwood.

Others may be able to describe what ben platt accomplishes (and it does indeed include sweat and a bucket of tears.....ben and audience). His "words Fail" in act 2 is, like, rose's turn but dialed up a hundred notches, a huge huge huge number yet incredibly nuanced. I am still blown away two weeks later by platt.
Agreed.....and can anyone hazard a guess as to how the heck Platt and the show did not get Drama Desk nominations? I admittedly don't ordinarily pay close attention to the DD's -- maybe they have a long history of odd choices. And I have not seen all the nominees in the Actor or Musical categories. But I did see some, and it's difficult to make sense of the omissions.

These are some great reviews, very happy for them. I think a Broadway transfer is inevitable surely.
