DIANA: THE MUSICAL Closing on December 19th

Actually still a smidge sooner than I was expecting, was hoping to see it pull through the new year. Save the pandemic I feel as though in recent years, even shows that are hemorrhaging money have been sticking around longer, or that produces don't care to lose money on something they personally believe in... Like the show or not, having it immortalized on film as a great feat— and I hope it encourages others to do the same of their shows. This has been such a guilty pleasure of mine the past month.

Realistically don't see this touring considering it ran as short as it did, was reviewed as poorly as it was, and would need a fair amount of restating per the elevator. But I'd love to be proven wrong. If not that, curious to see if any licensing houses pick it up.

Glad I saw it then.

But frankly… was anyone surprised at this news?

Dang. I can’t say I’m surprised, but this really makes me sad.

I had really hoped this would at least make it through the holidays.

it would be nice if grosses were broken back out by show so we could better really understand how a show is doing.

Hunh. Figured they'd manage to power through to January at least.

Ah well. I'm glad I saw it pre-pandemic, and I enjoyed it for what it was (campy and far from serious). My best wishes to the cast and staff getting laid-off mid-holiday season.

I had brought back Dougal Flopguy, but the moderators had other plans… dang it.

They must have almost no advance for the holiday weeks.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I’m this weird mix of “Well, DUH!” And “Wait, What?”

My impression was that this was getting traction as like a cult/trashy night out of theatre and would build a fan base on that at least through the new year.

That had been my sense too, especially once their social media started to really lean into the campy/culty nature of the beast. But I'm not sure how many people are willing to shell out a couple hundred bucks on a pair of tickets for a camp night, all while still wearing a mask in the theatre. Seems like you'd really want to see something and get your money's worth to endure all that.

I hope the critics are happy now! They got what they wanted. I loved it so much...oh well.

This is why I wished we had the full grosses report. Haven't seen a musical announce a closing date one week before in a long time. Must've been selling so badly to the point where producers didn't even want to push it through the Holiday season with a Jan 1st closing date.

Although I’m not surprised, I do feel for those losing their jobs around the holidays. I always thought the closing notices had to come like a month out but I guess not? Nine days is so soon. Have other shows had quick closing notices like this one?

I believe Wonderland and Tuck Everlasting closed just five days in advance.

Yuiks... definitely didn't expect such a short run... people and critics who poured a lot of hate on this show must be rejoicing.

Just wait until the regional and amateur circuits get their hands on this. This will go down in history as the next Rocky Horror.

I’m gonna go out on a limb saying “Chicken & Biscuits” two weeks ago - which even with a week of shows lost to COVID, still ran 9 more total performances than this.

They can ANNOUNCE closing anytime they want, however, unless things have changed, the cast and crew get paid for 2 weeks after they find out.

I'm sure peeps will correct me if I'm wrong.
