Three of the shows listed above came out in the last ten years, so yes, quite a few in the last decade, but regardless, please elaborate on the idea that there is modern business trend that suggests shows struggle with winter openings as a rule?

Honestly, I would hope that they would get Kristin Chenoweth to lead this thing (yes, I know QOV), but as big as Dolly's name is I think this would work well with both, and I do feel they need a bit of a name to help this to float. I only hope they did some major reworking to the book and set and costumes. I want so badly for this to succeed. Dolly deserves it to succeed.
A secondary choice to headline as Dolly for me would be Megan Hilty.
The Nashville version just fell flat, and while I loved that there were original songs in the show, I worry that it would land as a Cher Show type show instead of a Beautiful or Jersey Boys. I also found some of the arrangements to be unsuited for the show, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

Hilty and Chenoweth should not - and will not - get within a mile of this show.
The sign of real change would have been replacing Sher and/or adding a new bookwriter. But that’s clearly not happening, and Dolly must trust him.

I wonder if a lot of the physical limitations had to do with this being done at Belmont and not a traditional out of town theater. Maybe they could only handle and do so much. Although Sher seems to hate using automation in his shows so not sure how his style would translate to a barn like the St James.

The Broadway production is auditioning for these roles this month :
DOLLY PARTON (Female, 40s-50s) The country singer/songwriter superstar in the later stages of her career and serves as the narrator reflecting on her life.

CARL DEAN (Male, late 30s-early 40s) Carl Dean is Dolly’s love interest and eventual husband.

Ha, you’re right. In my knee jerk attempt at being snarky, I think my eyes entirely skipped over the three more recent shows. Thanks for pointing it out!

Kristin’s next show is a roundabout revival of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. It’s perfection. And then they are doing Sutton Foster Gypsy and an eventual remount of Anything Goes also starring Ms. Foster.

I do think his hiring is a Parton issue and one of the things complicating this production. She probably feels her life is more serious and important than what the general public would like to see.
Him being attached to the LA LA LAND musical is also rather odd, though we haven’t had an update on that in a few years.

The first preview is sold out but... the rest of the first few weeks of performances are decidedly not, sometimes not even close. Mezz in particular seems to be pretty empty at every performance, even performances in which the balcony appears sold out. The balcony, in fact, looks completely unavailable for most weeknight performances, which seems like a strategy to force sales of higher priced tickets.
