The Amy Adams news is the first, and so far only thing that makes me look forward to seeing this.
Her So Big / So Small will be heartbreaking.
Fingers crossed this is finally her Oscar! She currently has 6 nominations without a win.

Amy is playing Cynthia, not Heidi.

My mistake. I saw in the headline which character she was playing, so it wasn't for lack of reading. I just got the characters confused because, well, I just got them confused. Mea culpa.
Well, anyway, she'll still be great, I'm sure.

Very sad to see Amy Adams involved in project with the worst things to happen to musical theater(Pasek & Paul)

Cynthia is such an underwritten character in the stage show, so hopefully they will expand it for the film.
Also I think we can expect Heidi casting fairly soon. Still hoping for Kate Winslet!

Same! Either Kate Winslet or Toni Collette are who I’m hoping for.

UGH, Toni Colette would be amazing in that role.
Seems to me that Cynthia is a great role, with perhaps more stage time than Heidi. She just doesn't have a big emotional character number that would grab the attention of awards voters the way that So Big / So Small does.
I realize, of course, that it's not all about awards. I just find myself thinking in those terms because of how long overdue for an Oscar Amy Adams is.

Love Amy and I concur that I hope they expand her role for the film. I was thinking, Cynthia might be a good character to write an academy award winning song for. Hope we find out her Larry soon. I was thinking the other day that I wouldn’t mind Chris Messina as Larry.

This is EXCELLENT casting. Honestly, Platt is what excites me the least about this film. While he was so great in the original production, he does not realistically look 17. He's also done a pretty good job of building a career since DEH, and I think he has so many opportunities to showcase his talent in the future.
I also think they missed a great opportunity to cast an actor of color in the role of Evan.

Amy Adams is always incredible casting in anything, and this is no exception. I hope they buff up the role of Cynthia for her and really let her dig into it.

While no one is surprised that Platt is playing the role, there is no reason the role couldn't have been cast with an actor of color.

^The producer's son is white. That is the reason.

Yes there is. It's been discussed widely in this thread the reasons why he got the role. Why are we still talking about the role of Evan? He was the first to be cast.
