Sounds about white. I love Ben Platt but he will be 27 by the time he films this movie and, to be honest, he does not look especially young for his age. I try to be positive with everything, but all of this casting has been so disappointing. How much more interesting would this story have been if Evan and Heidi were people of color?
My mistake. I saw in the headline which character she was playing, so it wasn't for lack of reading. I just got the characters confused because, well, I just got them confused. Mea culpa.
Seems to me that Cynthia is a great role, with perhaps more stage time than Heidi. She just doesn't have a big emotional character number that would grab the attention of awards voters the way that So Big / So Small does.
I realize, of course, that it's not all about awards. I just find myself thinking in those terms because of how long overdue for an Oscar Amy Adams is.
Love Amy and I concur that I hope they expand her role for the film. I was thinking, Cynthia might be a good character to write an academy award winning song for. Hope we find out her Larry soon. I was thinking the other day that I wouldn’t mind Chris Messina as Larry.

This is EXCELLENT casting. Honestly, Platt is what excites me the least about this film. While he was so great in the original production, he does not realistically look 17. He's also done a pretty good job of building a career since DEH, and I think he has so many opportunities to showcase his talent in the future.
I also think they missed a great opportunity to cast an actor of color in the role of Evan.
Amy Adams is always incredible casting in anything, and this is no exception. I hope they buff up the role of Cynthia for her and really let her dig into it.
Yes there is. It's been discussed widely in this thread the reasons why he got the role. Why are we still talking about the role of Evan? He was the first to be cast.
Deadline is reporting Danny Pinno as Larry Murphy. Seems a little out of the blue but hey, he is just joining a long line of hot dads playing this part.
