tappingjeff, I think it's great that you are trying to see "both sides" of this, but I fear it has snowballed into something much larger. When these Broadway stars started attacking other actors, this also became a question of grace and decorum. When these Broadway stars started deleting the offending comments and in some cases denied making them, this also became an issue of integrity.
Once you start lying, you lose any benefit of the doubt the rest of us might have been giving you. I know my mother didn't raise me that way and I certainly didn't raise my sweet boy Whiteshirt that way.
has anybody seen my sweet boy, White Shirt? He stopped posting on here after people made fun of his lack of professionalism.
Exactly, whiteshirtsmom. I totally agree with you. If they had convictions and stood by them, I'd respect that. However, they (Hunter, Jen, Sieber, and Patterson) were just mean and lame and then started deleting comments they made b/c they knew they were just plain old mean. Not even constructive or educated, just mean and spiteful.
Patterson was among the worst-telling tales out of school, basically saying to any actor she ever works with in the future "dont trust me, Im a catty blabbermouth."
All four of those actors are dead to me and I'll never support them directly again. If they happen to be in something with an actor I respect, then I'll suck it up and go. If it's them solo forget about it.
Hunter and Jen may be the king and queen of the NYC theatre prom, but they are big fish in a small pond and piranhas at that. Karma is a bitch.

The thing is, are Hunter and Jen even prom king and queen? Are they even on the prom court? The last real hit Foster's been a part of was Urinetown all those years ago, and Cody is nothing but a quirky chorine. What are they presiding over?
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Well I think Hunter and Jen know a lot of people and are certainly well connected since they have been working in the theatre scene for so long. Whether or not they are actually liked or respected I do not know, but they certainly are well known after years in the community.

Here we go again...somehow my previous post ended up in no-man's land:
...I just wish Broadway itself wasn't such a commercial business and maybe we could have high quality shows that run on artistry, not on marquee names or popular franchises....but that day is still so far away.
Oh, for God's sake. What is this Utopian vision of Broadway that people believe should exist? Broadway IS commercial. Broadway has always looked to marquee names as a marketing tool for many of its shows. Broadway has also always contained shows ofe varying degrees of artistry, entertainment, and commercialism. The demographic has shifted, international tourism increased, the art has evolved and trends have shifted and changed.
The absence of marquee names, franchises and commercial ploys do not guarantee a higher quality of artistry just as the inclusion of any of them automatically denote the absence of artistry. If Broadway had never jumped on the bandwagon of stylistic trends and fads, it never would have evolved past the point of operettas, burlesque and Vaudeville. Show Boat would have been a bizarre fluke or Oklahoma would have been the odd anomaly. Instead, the response was "Let's see if we can do that, too!" and the race was on to make lightning strike as many times as possible. It's the same race today and when something different works, more of the same will naturally follow.

New post from Meredith Patterson! This is hysterical!
"I am shocked to have received so many personal hateful comments, tweets, and emails. Anyone who knows me, knows I have such a respect for our Broadway community. I expressed my opinion on my blog and I apologize if I offended anyone. I felt a lot of what I said was twisted, but I can't control that. I do not to read th...e posts on message boards but personally attacking us just makes people look ugly and hateful. I never personally attacked anyone and never would. I love Broadway and the Tony's. Please please stop personally attacking anyone for having an opinion. Sincerely, Meredith Patterson"
Everybody knows how vocal i have been about this whole thing and i stand by my comments that attacks of any sort by any actors to another on a forum that can be seen by many is silly and unattractive.
Even with all this i would say that as much as i disagree with that, and i disagree with all they believe about Celebs taking over Broadway and the Tony’s etc, i don’t think anybody should personally bad mouth or attack them in a personal way, that’s everything we are saying is wrong.
We can be annoyed they have said/done but it should never get personal. Foster/ Sieber etc will always have great talent and work hard for Broadway and that should continue, be angry at what they have said, that’s fine, that’s our right but getting personal is not the answer, we just end up contradicting ourselves then.

Bradley Calise I don't know that "She got her award because her husband bought it and I know this because she looked at him when she won" is actually an opinion, though. It's more like flat-out lunacy. 56 minutes ago · 1 person · Flag
Meredith Wiley I never said this. I have flagged your comment for abuse. 20 minutes ago · Flag
Hunter Foster Meredith, you have done nothing wrong. And no one should make u feel otherwise. 15 minutes ago · Flag
Meredith Wiley Thank you Hunter. I just had to speak, I can't stand the twisting of words and the hate. 14 minutes ago · Flag
Jennifer Cody I can't believe that I am going to justify this with a comment but you have made statements without any real fact behind them and you are tarnishing what this site is about. First, your question: My husband and I were asked to walk the red carpet a month before the Tony's by his Producers. This probably occurred because in previous years, this was the norm. When that happened, a well-known designer asked to dress me...they only do this so that their clothes get photographed...that's the only "pay-off" the designer gets. A week before the Tony's, the new "rules" for walking were announced., This left me in a bind because I had to get the dress photographed. That, AND THAT ALONE, is the only reason I could care a lick about walking a red carpet. Now, I can only speak for myself and tell you why I joined this site. There were so many things leading up to the actual awards show that substituted what performers had known as tradition and replaced them with a new "Hollywood" mentality that saddened me, as well as others who have performed on the Tonys multiple times The orchestra being housed two blocks away; not even in the building in a show celebrating live theatre. The pre-show run through that is the most amazing "community moment" of the Tonys becoming a sold out event filling the house with anyone who could buy a ticket. Broadway's Lifetime Achievement Award being given in the preshow hour that already housed our design awards. I believe . this site was developed as a place for people to find ways together to hold on to the traditions that make our community special. I don't believe this will change your opinions of myself, or my fellow performers, but hopefully this will give you an invitation to now exit this site feeling that your voice was heard.
Someone just posted the offending paragraph of Patterson's blog post on the group... I'M DYING! What a hilarious saga. Wonder how she will try to spin her way out of this now that her post is there VERBATIM..
I understand their point of view. These performers have pretty much settled on Broadway as the peak of their careers and have developed a sense of ownership.
It must burn so bad to acknowledge that people who are more famous than they will ever be can be just as talented.
They are coming off as bitter people who just can't aim for more in their careers. They hate to recognize that those who the media love can do what they do just as well and get more recognition at the same time.
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
"Ms. Patterson, you wrote the following on your blog before you deleted it and made the blog private.
"Denzel started on Broadway, and Catherine was Peggy Sawyer in London at the age of 17. But...from the way she acted you would never know it. Denzel I love, but come on, he couldn't remember who to thank? The name of the award? Jeez. And Catherine... See More (who I heard smokes like chimney backstage...I have sources) is constantly out of the show, and constantly has no voice won Best Actress? Really? Beating out the amazing Broadway vets and professionals Kate Baldwin and Montego Glover. And the weirdest thing.....as she won the award, she turned to her husband Michael Douglas in shock...not sure what she's saying but it caused controversy among our community that the award was "bought for her by Michael". I know. Shock! Well, I'm the most naive person when it comes to awards. I think the best of the best win and that's how it is. The best of the best get the role and that's how it is. Sadly, we know that's not how the world works."
You can deny saying this, but there's proof. I didn't doctor this or try to make you look bad. Here's the thing, I really admire you as a performer, and Hunter, Jen, and all of the other actors posting in this group. I am not trying to viciously attack or hurt you. I am just, along with many of the other people in this group, asking you own up to saying these things. I would have so much respect for you as a person if you were willing to say, "I wrote this, and I stand by it." I may not agree with you, but I would respect it. I think what I, and many of the others, are so frustrated about is all of you denying saying these things. I do support a lot of what this group stands for. What I don't support is people lying and trying to save face. You can save face by stepping up and telling the truth. This post is probably going to be deleted, but I just wanted to get this out."
