Posted: 12/28/08 at 7:39pmI haven't seen a Disney production or even plan to, however I would fly out to see Peter and the Starcatchers. My 11 year old LOVES the books and I have taken a great liking to them too. I can see it becoming WICKED like in popularity if it is done correctly and not done too sugary sweet.

Posted: 12/28/08 at 8:11pmNot sure about on stage, but on screen, the Cheno is doing an animated version of Rapunzel for Disney. I'm unsure as to whether it's a musical or not, but I certainly hope so.

Posted: 12/28/08 at 8:26pmBefore "Rapunzel," though, is "The Princess and the Frog," which is coming out in... Novemberish, I want to say? I know the songs are by Randy Newman. It looks cute-- set in New Orleans, with the first black 'Disney princess' (if you don't count Nala and Aida). But this is film, not stage.

Posted: 12/28/08 at 8:32pmOh, yes! How could I forget about "The Princess and the Frog"? I think it'll be something to remember. And with a bit of research, a score is being/has been prepared for "Rapunzel" and Chenoweth will, in fact, sing.

"moderately scaled play with music"
Doesn't sound like The New Amsterdam to me.

If a really nice production of Cinderella comes by, I'd love to see it:)
Same for Beauty and The Beast, since I never got to see it...

On a recent trip to Disney World, I saw Finding Nemo: The Musical. I really enjoyed it. The songs were stuck in my head for weeks!! The puppets, sets, and acrobatics were all well done. I really hope this show makes its way to Broadway. If you are interested, you can download all of the songs on itunes. Here is a video about the show:

Newsies, Peter and the Starcatchers, and Man on the Ceiling are all the said things Disney is going to hopefully bring to Broadway. Although, "Peter" and "Ceiling" are not former Disney films. They are just being produced under the Disney name.
The only 2 "possibilities" I have heard are "Hercules" (Alan Menken said he would love to see this done. He said it could work well), and "Hunchback" (an english version of the Berlin production).
There is an Aladdin stage musical at Califorina Adventure Theme Park in California. It includes a song Alan Menken wrote soon after Howard Ashman died.
And personally I think the Disney shows are great

"I think Jonathan Larson needs to come back here"
Why?
So we can hear more crack whores b*tch about having AIDS through overrated mediocre rock music?
I'll take FINDING NEMO (which is not a musical. it's a theme park show with like five songs) over Jonathan Larson.
Besides... he's not frozen. there's no chance. even if we ever get the stem cell research workin. Sorry to smash your dreams.
