From today’s Briefing: Visceral Entertainment has announced that it will launch a national tour this summer for Emojiland, the 2020 Off-Broadway musical. A virtual and inclusive casting call for the tour is underway, with submissions for all roles open to all performers regardless race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, or experience level. Interested performers can find details and submission instructions at emojiland.comthrough March 27.
It seems like the tour has been canceled or, at the very least, postponed/rescheduled. Tickets are no longer available at the Bushnell (Hartford, their second stop) or the Kimmel Center (Philadelphia, their fourth stop). The Boch Center (Boston, their third stop) posted this message on their website: "Please be advised that all performances of Emojiland - The Musical, originally scheduled for the Shubert Theatre on June 14-19, have been cancelled."
None of the stops were on season subscription packages, right? What a horrendous way for the show to close. Who was producing? Michael Cohl? I feel so bad for everyone involved.

How terrible. Feel really bad for the cast and crew.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
This was a lot of fun off-Bway. Cannot imagine it playing well with a less seasoned cast of clowns...might even be best as a high school production as opposed to a non-union tour. What distributor on earth would pay for a performance by a non-union cast?
iirc this did not sell Off-Bway, so I don't know why they thought it would sell to the masses across the country.
The producers have just made a statement (at last) to confirm the tour is cancelled and they will be doing a one night only performance of the show and filming for later release.
What a mess. I feel for the cast and crew in this one that got tangled up in an ill conceived attempt at a tour.
The authors of the show were previously married and got divorced before the off-Bway production...she played the lead, he used to play the other lead but left the show before it ran at New 42. But he's the only one giving a statement here? Weird!

Apparently the production received SVOG money and they had to spend it or give it back to the government. So, they planned on spending it on the tour. I guess filming this allows them to still spend that money.

This seemed very rushed from the start. I’ve never seen a national tour - non-equity or equity - hold auditions so close to the start date of the show. Seems like the whole thing was poorly planned. My heart goes out to the cast and crew.
