EVERYBODYS TALKING ABOUT JAMIE Aiming For Broadway

I saw the show tonight and asked Michelle Visage if she’d ever considered doing Broadway and she said they’re working to get JAMIE transferred over and her contract says she has first dibs on her role when they go.

I’m curious how it would be received in the states but I really loved it and thought I’d pass the info along.

Regardless of what show you prefer, I think it's a bit too similar to The Prom for there not to be some strong competition between the two. I know ticket sales are doing okay right now, but if I were them I would wait for that to close and come in next season or something.

That isn't to say that I see them making it over this season either way; as I honestly don't.

Saw the filmed performance and fell in love with it. I would kill to see McCrea do it live.

This show will not recoup it’s investment in New York. It’s not good enough for New York audiences, so unless they make extensive changes, or it gets a mass teen following, which I think would have happened already if it was going to, this is a bad idea for producers. I really want to see Michelle in it though, so I wouldn’t be mad if that happened. I just spent two weeks in London and was going to go again just to see her, but she was out filming something the whole time.

Not good enough for Broadway? Have you seen some of the crap that's been on Broadway lately? I saw this in London about two months ago and enjoyed it far more than most musical offerings currently on Broadway.

I have missed less than 10 broadway shows in the last 15 years. I agree with what you’re saying, but the shows your referring to also haven’t returned a profit. It’s leagues better than Head Over Heels, but it’s nowhere close to successful shows such as Wicked, Come From Away, Be More Chill, or Dear Evan Hansen.

I think this show has an audience, and it's those drag queen kids who grew up on Drag Race. Also, the show really hits across the generations.

Also Michelle is out as she's a judge on Ireland's Got Talent which is filming auditions currently.

Tell this to the producers of Head Over Heels whose entire intial marketing premise was built around it featuring someone from Drag Race

I would assume they meant not good enough to turn a profit on Broadway. Any old thing can open, close, and lose money...

This will not find an audience in New York. Michelle may want it to open on Broadway, and she may have it in her contract that she gets the first right of refusal it comes to Broadway, but I would be shocked if it jumped the pond.

There's a world of difference between the financial success of those mentioned above and Head Over Heels. You don't have to be a juggernaut to be a success.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I totally agree Broadway_Boy. This was one of the most disappointing shows. I went in thinking I would love it, and I just couldn't believe how bad the score was. I was cringing through most of the lyrics and book lines. I wish they would work on it because it's so promising and the energy is great but the score is just so bad. London hasn't produced a strong original score since Matilda.

Haven't seen the show, but I always think of Michael Musto on an episode of Theatre Talk about importing things from London that Broadway doesn't import "Dreamboats and Petticoats" or "Thriller Live" or "The Rat Pack: Live from Las Vegas". By the same thread, London doesn't bring "Soul Doctor", "Escape to Margaritaville" or "Amazing Grace. Some things seem to stay where they are started, provided they don't have enough suppost and buzz.

I didn't find the filmed version as affecting as expected, but I'd still like to see this transfer to Broadway with Ms. Visage.

She attempts it and it comes off poorly. There's nothing in the text that says she can't be American. I was shocked they didn't just let her use her natural accent. I think her performance would come across much stronger if she did.

I think the show could work on Broadway, but I agree it's a bit too similar to The Prom with a touch of Kinky Boots thrown in.

That didn't seem to hurt Memphis, which I found to be Dreamgirls with a touch of Hairspray thrown in...and relocated to Tennessee.

It’s amusing that Jamie is technically a Disney film. I expect Fox Searchlight to distribute it rather than Fox, as it is pretty small compared to something like West Side Story. Opening it the week after Cruella also suggests that this is not going to be a Box Office No 1....

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Jamie film is released in the U.K. first (possibly as early as Easter) I also wouldn’t be surprised if Broadway producers take advantage of the extra time and try to open Jamie late in the 2020-21 season...

Strange. Deadline says the release date is Oct 23, 2020. I wonder which one is right. (Hoping for the earlier one.)
