Nobody asked, but here's who I might have called first for a mostly-American NIGHT MUSIC concert/album cast. (with the classic disclaimer that it's very possible they ended up with some 10th choices for this concert staging.)
Desiree: Ruthie Ann Miles or Audra McDonald
Mme. A: Harriet Harris, Cherry Jones, or Patti Equity LuPone
Fredrik: Santino Fontana or Conrad Ricamora
Count: Joshua Henry or Jordan Donica
Countess: Carmen Cusack or Stephanie J. Block or Amber Gray
Henrik: Joe Locke
Anne: Maria Bilbao
(They can keep Cynthia as Petra, Frid, and the Quintet as announced here)
In a true dream scenario, I would have loved to hear Bernadette Peters in a fully-orchestrated version with the keys at an appropriate pace.

Opened this threat hoping someone nailed the proper joke for this, and im not disappointed one bit. Thank you.

Coincidentally I was talking with a friend this evening before I saw this announcement about fantasy casting for this show and I thought that Kate Winslet as Desiree would be divine. And she could finally complete her EGOT. I can only imagine the Broadway and West End roles she's been offered.

Yeah, you're the one who said it was happening with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Are you trying to race Broadway Flash to the bottom of the credibility barrel?

wait Jesse give us in the inside scoop man. Is Jamie Lee Curtis going to be an uncredited standby for Marsha Mason? Is she taking it on the road after its run? Is it true Erivo slipped something into Lohan's nalgene to snag the lead? You cant leave us hanging like this.

I was joking about the cast. Tunick's new arrangement is transferring to broadway though.
The prices are ABSURD. I want to see Cynthia Erivo sing The Miller’s Wife, but I’m not paying $150 for the last row of the third tier. Or $338 for an actually good seat, for that matter.
These prices are goddamn outrageous. $88 for partial view and almost $150 for back row? I'll wait a year or two until the eventual Bway transfer thank you.
I'm just here so I don't get fined
Audra Gypsy show watch count: 2
Dream Rose Replacements: Sheryl Lee Ralph

A 53 piece orchestra is not transferring to Broadway. Stop being insane.
sng said: "I'm sorry but you got Ruthie Ann Miles in the cast and NOT have her do Desiree??"
EXACTLY! Before we saw the cast list I assumed she was Desiree. Hello, she just slayed Light In The Piazza. She should be Desiree. This casting is beyond bizarre and definitely not worth $400. I love Marsha Mason, but good lord no. I'd prefer Marybeth Peil or Jayne Houdyshell.
I might be in the minority here, but I find this show terribly dull. I'd never want to sit through a concert of it. I saw the last revival twice, once with CZJ and once with Bernie. I think that is the best it can get. If this comes to Broadway it will be a big pass for me unless they recast.

Have you seen any other production than that misguided Trevor Nunn revival? Because if that was the only one you’ve seen I would agree with your “terribly dull” assessment. Nunn directed the show like it was a dreary Chekhov piece. It was slow, plodding, and yes, dull. In more capable hands this show should sparkle like a mix of Oscar Wilde and Noel Coward.

That revival was the only "professional" production I've seen. I've seen local, regional and community productions. I found all of them lackluster. I am sure you are right. Maybe I've seen bad interpretations. The production with Amy Irving seemed intriguing and the concert with Ebersole a few years back seemed good as well.

Where will they put this 53 piece orchestra when it transfers, and who will be paying for it?
The Trevor Nunn production might have been slow and dimly lit but it was intimate and the cast across different times were terribly exciting and the right cast e.g. CZJ, Lansbury, Bernadette, Stritch Hanson, Erin Davie etc.
I guarantee if they managed in a different world/time to get Bernadette/Stritch or CZJ/Lansbury in the lead roles of this concert the reaction to the concert would not be so 'meh'. It would be an event.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
