Anyone? Reason I'm asking is that I'm currently workshoping my own piece for an Off- Off Broadway tryout in Nyack, New York. Certainly it's one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and I was curious if anyone else here actually aspires to create the art form which we treasure most dearly.

I have, and I pray that it never sees the light of day again.

Five, all here in Australia. None famous, none hugely successful, but I'm proud of 'em all, and I hope you like cutting things.

Yup.
And I can't wait until we begin filming. Maybe some day you can all say "I knew her when she was just an a sock puppet on BWW!"
It's been a long journey, and "lungoj o drom angla mande" (the road ahead is long still) but we're getting there!

Wow, cold stuff, husk charmer, cold stuff. The show is a musical epic which, while intergrating classic Disney songs into the storyline, suggests how Mickey Mouse may have been created, and tells the life of Walt Disney through a dream. It's taken me over three years to work on, including a ton of research into the life of Walt Disney, his siblings, his wife, and his career, and this November will be it's first public performance. When I'm finished editing, I'll post it up so that you guys could critique it.
Also, if anyone is going to say that I couldn't use the songs without specific permission from the Walt Disney Company, well I have recieved permission on special terms from Thomas Schumacher, his assistant Dusty Bennet, and the head of Disney Theatrical's Legal Department, Johnathan Olson. If you still don't believe me, I'll forward you the exact documents which allow so.

I plan to write a musical about marching band, so I can combine my two loves together
Oh my god... yes. In 10th grade? My best friend and I collaborated with book, score, and lyrics.. It was about a girl, who lives on a farm, screws a cow, her brother, and her boyfriend all in the same night, and her boyfriend and brother are both closet cases. She doesn't know who the father is, but you fnd out all three of them are.
It was so stupid.
I always wanted to write for musical theatre but made the mistake of becoming a teacher many years ago and got side-tracked for about 20 years! Fortunately during the last few years I've been able to work with some very talented composers and now have a number of musicals in various stages of development. The two that are the most advanced are shows I've written with composer Christopher J. Orton: "My Land's Shore" - set around one of the most famous episodes in the social history of Wales, the Merthyr Rising of 1831 - which had its world concert premiere in Cardiff in August 2007; and "Elephant Juice" - the concept CD of which is about to go on sale.
If anyone is vaguely interested LOL, you can listen to songs from "Elephant Juice" here:

My friend did along with some people, and they actually ran it for a few performances at a small theater in midtown Manhattan. She told me it was a few thousand away from gaining off-Broadway status. Originally, it was supposed to run all summer in Central Park (I think), but something didn't work out.

Several
and while they never turn out the way they were planned (not to mention trunk songs galore), they aren't bad either

choked_on_tittup , I recommend that you attend the Guca festival if you have not already. What is more fun than the competition on the main stage (which is exciting in itself) is what happens in the town of Guca during the festival, in the streets and cafes. It's a non-stop party of brass bands. To make money to pay for going to the festival, the bands work the crowds. There is music and dancing everywhere.

No, it's true. IT was based around my senior year of high school, and I wrote it as it went on. I used songs from musicals (cause i hae NO lyric writing ability), and it all pretty much sucked the big one. I have never seen so much angst in 4 hours ever (that's right, it was 4 hours long, I timed it one day)
I have written two books to musicals (no music because I haven't found a collaborator yet). It's the most frustrating thing because writing it and revising it a billion times is the easy part. It's the getting it out there, knowing if your instinct is right, wondering if people will hear it in their head the same way you do that's tough.

I'm in the process of writing two. I'm sure they will end in disaster. I've been working on my first one for little over a year, and have about 18 songs, but only 3 fit in what i want. Good Luck with your Off-Off-Broadway tryout
In my sophomore year of high school, I attempted a few songs for CRIME AND PUNISHMENT: THE MUSICAL. I was hoping to get extra credit, but alas . . .
I've had an idea for a musical comedy for about 2 years now. I've written two songs for it, and small portions of the book, but I haven't worked on it lately. I still want to finish it someday though... I think it could be pretty good. :)

I was sort of in the same boat as bob8rich. I started out wanting to be a performer, but became a music teacher instead. Then I got married...so all of the free time where I could have been on stage was now completely monopolized.
A few years ago I decided to turn my attention to writing for the stage (since I could do it from home), but could never find a writing partner in my neck of the woods. I also had a hard time sticking to one show or idea. I would begin one project, but would then find a new property or idea that would excite me and I would drop the old one like a sack of old potatoes (maybe it was due to ADD). Thus, I have like six or so shows "in development" but none very far along.
About a year ago I finally found a writing partner and I think we are finally on the right track to getting something farther along than just an outline. We have a great idea for a holiday musical farce that hopefully will see the light of day sometime soon.
I see you have a problem with your ending, Enjolras77.
