Is it possible that Evita may have a revival soon? Who would be Eva Peron, if so?
Caren Lyn Manuel
She's already played the role, and recieved rave reviews in Germany. She'd be perfect!

I dunno why, but I can see Sara Ramirez as Eva. Hmmm...

there was talk a little while ago that Trevor Nunn was going to take a stab at it in the UK first. ALW wants to reorchestrate it too.
Major contenders (my opinion):
Idina Menzel
Alice Ripley
I think both of these ladies have the acting as well as the high belt in order to do justice to this role. I bet they go more with a rock/pop sound than the original US casting.

Ripley wants that part BAD. There was some article (playbill?) where she talked about it. I vote for her - She's amazing.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Toni Collette.
If Ms. Collette is unavailable or turns the part down, Alice Ripley or Rachel York would suffice.
mayhaps Orfeh...
Rachel York would be perfect...i dont think Sara Ramirez could play Eva!!!???
Give me Toni over Idina any day. Just thinking about Idina screaming through that score makes my head hurt.

Toni Collette would be superb. I fully support that motion. I recon Susan Egan could be a fantastic Eva!

I'm in the Rachel York camp. She's played Eva before in regional theater, she's got the acting and singing chops without a doubt, she's absolutely magnetic on stage, and she's a box office draw. What more could a director and producers want?

"I am Evita. Bow down before me!"
LC-As much as I love Ms. York, I would hardly call her a "box office draw".
Ms. York all the way!!! Maybe she would finally get her over due Tony!!
It is reviving in the West End in the autumn 2006.
Michael Grandage (Donmar Shows/Guys and Dolls...) will be directing with partner Chris Oram on the creative team.
There are talks of if Woman In White dosen't pick up to what a new show should be like in the West End it will come off Summer 06 and Evita will hence revive at The Palace.
Denise Van Ougten has been tipped to play the role alongside Madonna reprising the film role and LAura Michelle Kelly taking the role (Mary Poppins) of Eva Peron
If successfull the show will go on to Broadway.
Toni Collete is an interesting choice. I would love to see her play Eva but I don't think she has the vocal chops to play it. Alice Ripley would be an excellent choice as well. Anyone thought about Ana Gasteyer?

Denise... pretty good! Madonna.... pulling power! Laura... i can't see it at all! I think Joanna Riding should do it... she was supposed to be the origional Poppins aparently but Cameron Macintosh decided he wanted someone younger to originate the role!
Ms. York, without a doubt.
Ya know, I read an article that said Madonna wanted to work in a West End musical with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and I would not be at all shocked if it were indeed 'Evita'.
Aren't Alice Ripley, Rachel York, et all actually a little old? The character ages from 15 to 32, and both Patti LuPone and Elaine Paige were in their 20s when they were cast...
Toni Collette would indeed be interesting.

I think an actor's actual age has nothing to do with it, as long as she can pull off the transition. Heck, Rachel York just finished playing the same character at 20 and 84 in DESSA ROSE, and she did it beautifully. I think for Evita it's more important to have an actor who can be a force of nature than to be the "right age." York (and Ripley) certainly are that.
And for the record, Toni Collette is just one year younger than York - 32 vs. 33. Eva Peron died at 33.

Denise Van Outen - whatever?! have you heard her on the "Tell Me On a Sunday" CD? There is no WAY she can handle the high belting of the piece and I for one, would not want to hear "A New Argentina" in a lowered key. That string of belted E's is simply thrilling! And what about "Rainbow high"? You have to have chops for that. If Lloyd Webber goes with Madonna, he's just pandering and wants a guaranteed audience.
As much as I like Sara Ramirez, she's too tall and her vocal quality is too creamy - gorgeous, but not right not Eva.

I'm kinda with hypertruffle - Sara Ramirez would indeed be interesting.
