I just wanna say - John Riddle is delicious and he will be a treat in this role. He sounds absolutely heavenly in The Visit, and while Hans' character doesn't have a deep tenor sound, Riddle will have the charm thing in the pocket.

Much agreed. The casting doesn't bother me nearly as much as everything else. It's cast well and I'm sure more interesting choices will come in the future. Now You say break with the mold, but yet you seem fine with Riddle? No shade I'm just curious since Riddle hardly breaks the mold. I think we all can agree Alladin is the biggest mold breaker here, the best part is that it makes perfect sense since Laplanders do/did have a decently large population of people who were very dark skinned.

Sorry, for the confusion. I meant that Riddle and Caissie are the closest to looking like their movie counterparts and even then, not so much. So it might have been better to just get people who don't resemble their movie counterparts much at all except in spirit and how they play the characters.
Re: Casey... Something Rotten had funny moments but none of the emotional moments resonated with me. I think Tuck Everlasting was a bit better because of the material but still, nothing. Actually, even though a lot of the script was lifted right from the movie, Aladdin worked for me. I teared up a little at the end. But that might have been due more to James Monroe Iglehart and Adam Jacobs than the direction.

^^ HA I walked by yesterday and forgot that P.L. has already closed and saw a large group on construction men working and the door so happened to be open, so I got a small peek of it :)
Vintage-Oh I'm with you. In fact the standbys (one of whom I actually know) give me hope for the rest of us who might not look exactly like them or even act just like the movie counterpart, cause that would be pretty boring as well.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Is this a new development? He did post this on his site, but he's not among the original list of the whole cast. And I'm assuming that puppet must be massive if they're needing a standby...
Jordan Roths glimpses inside the St. James remodeling is so cool! If you look at his insta story when he pans towards the stage. Is that curtain a fire curtain? I can't wait to see pictures of the final product!

I assume you meant to say that they haven't begun to load in the set at the St. James. Previews start in a month in Denver. The set is certainly built and being loaded in over in Denver as we speak, and if tech hasn't started it will very soon.

Of course not. I'm referring to the remodeling of theatre itself.

A side note, is there any chance there will be promo footage from the Denver run or from rehearsals?

To be honest, I really would have liked to see Laura Osnes play either Anna or Elsa in this. I know, I know the cast is set but was it Bandstand that prevented her casting or the potential of Crazy for You coming to broadway? I heard a rumor about that on the broadway.com show when it had that one night thing earlier this season.
I asked about if the curtain shown was a fire curtain. You can see it behind the three in the Instagram photo I just linked.

Alyssa just shared it :) I don't see much set, it's only the floor but still. However, what little I see looks VERY similar to the DCA production...I'm hoping and praying I'm wrong.
I could see this getting noms for Best Scenic Design, Lighting, Leading/Featured Actress, and maybe Costumes or Score. I think Best Musical could go to this or The Band's Visit, similarly to Aladdin and Gentlemen's Guide. All in all I think the cast is pretty great, with the exception of maybe Patti Murin. She seems much too old to play the part, and I would've preferred a younger actress like Laura Osnes or Laura Dreyfuss.
You can see the reindeer and snowman puppets here. The reindeer looks more realistic than what they have on the cruise and themepark, but that snowman looks the same. I'm really baffled as to how they are going to make this anyway different than what they have already done for the kiddies. Aren't these the same puppeteers working on the crewship? The set design/costumes etc all look as expected. I understand they are obligated to give people what they want... but oy they really seem to be painting by numbers here. Hopefully the ice castle will be more inspired but it will probably look like the logo which looks like the movie. I'm more interested in seeing what they do to Pinocchio this winter in England, Dumbo would have been so cool with the War Horse guys (they ended up using that in the circus show).
