Sounds great! This is now more footage than most Broadway shows release before the start of previews...so all the haters can be quiet now :) We also get some of Jared Grimes' dancing."
Yeah... I like Beanie fine but I don't see how that clip is going to silence anyone who is hesitant of her Fanny...
Trying to control people on the internet must be so exhausting for you.
Ramin sounds incredible, Jared looks amazing. Sadly, a thin nasal voice (Christina Applegate or Anna Kendrick) does nothing for me or this production. Oh well. The rest of it will be amazing, Im sure!
She sounds just about how I expected her to sound. Which is neither a good or bad thing as I am rather indifferent to her, but that clip didn't blow me away or exceed my tempered expectations. It was only one clip though!
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
I’m still cautiously optimistic and even more so after this. Personally I thought Beanie sounded like Vanessa Bayer’s impressions of children on SNL- the sound is coming directly from her nose.
Elena Roger's Nazi Minnie Mouse thing was horrifying. It was the first time my in-laws had ever seen a Broadway show and were visiting from Trinidad. I recommended the show not knowing about her. I have never been so embarrassed.
We will be seeing a lot of her understudy who can saaaaaang so that's a positive!
Producers definitely surrounded Beanie with tons of talent, but that unfortunately makes her look weaker in comparison. They should have went with an unknown like Juliette, https://www.instagram.com/tv/CAdOiFYjhWg/?hl=en
I guess they should have renamed the show, FUNNY GIRL & Co.
The voice is fine. I can name 2 dozen Broadway ensemble members with stronger voices.
It seems obvious they're relying on her charm and likeability factor more than anything. Vocals aside, If she could put across on stage what Streisand brought to the film, she may have a chance. We shall see.
The tone of her singing voice sounds exactly like I expected it to, since I've heard her sing before, but it definitely has more power now. I already like Beanie, so I'm expecting to enjoy her characterization, but, for me, the biggest question mark might be the chemistry between her and Ramin. I hope it works out, but, on paper, and in that short clip of them together, it doesn't seem like the "right" pairing.
I bought a $75 ticket on mezz, the clip is good, I feel like I'm gonna like the productions. Really hope the word of mouth from the first preview is good.
This is the sitzprobe. It’s the VERY first time the cast is singing with the orchestra. Anyone who has sung with an orchestra can attest how hard that is. Prior to this, the cast had been performing with just a piano and drums. This was about a week ago and they’ve since been performing with the orchestra. What you hear on this is zero what they will sound like starting Saturday. The sitzprobe is thrilling for the cast as they get to hear what the orchestra will sound like. They’re not performing full out and in a do-or-die intention.

That doesn't change the tone of her voice.
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
I always think it's funny that no one ever seems to cast a Fanny who is remotely like the real Fanny. The real Fanny was aggressively Jewish (yes, there IS such a quality) in performance, not a beauty (in fact, kind of a meeskite), waaaay over the top and still loveable and a bit sexy.
Sitzprobe or not, the placement of the sound will not change. She’s placing it in her mask and it’s coming directly through her nose, not from deep in her diaphragm as a belt should. If there’s one role that has a gold standard it’s Fanny Brice by way of Streisand- like it or not it is what everyone will be expecting. Considering the sound Ramin can produce if he sang full out in that duet he’d blow her across the room. There’s plenty of Broadway performers that can hide having an off day or singing with a cold and get with it because of good technique. even to the untrained ear- I saw Bernadette Peters in Annie Get Your Gun on a Saturday night where she was clearly going through something judging by her breathing in songs, but I doubt many in the audience even knew it. Sara Ramirez was also sick during her Tony performance, she’s talked about it, but I challenge you to watch that performance and find any sign of it. My point is, this role is a beast and if this is where she is placing it technically, this has missed performances written all over it. Lack of technique, which is where the tone is resonating from, and Fanny are not a marriage made in Heaven.

Maybe Mimi Hines came close. Or Marilyn Michaels."
