"I form opinions on shows I've never seen all the time."
If this show (which I will not name with the word WIN in the same sentence) wins the Tony Award for Best Musical, I will build my own baby coffin (for those who have seen the show) and dig my own grave.
I think that the Ninja Turtles musical that they are going to write in 2012 should win the Tony.
Think of all the actors and techies the Ninja Turtles show will employ. God I hope it's a hit.

Everyone, AMERICAN IDIOT hasn't opened yet. That said, I think FELA may have to be happy with a production at the National.
coming up next week for my first trip to NYC! is this a show worth seeing for someone and her boyfriend to see? I already bought us tickets to Adams Family. I want us to see something else after reading the blogs about that show.

Does anyone else think its odd that because Fela received good reviews its suddenly the musical of the common man and the enemy of upper-class white men? Since the entire production was conceived and brought to broadway by an upper-class white man it can hardly be considered the refuge of the "families, the lower and middle classes, or anyone without a 4-year college degree or better" on broadway.
"If FELA wins Best Musical, I'm moving to Canada"
so some, that is a great option.

i agree i think it has a chance to win. i did not love in the heights and i love the cast album of passing strange. that should of won. though the award passing strange did win should of went to xanadu
Trainwreck -your question about "did you see it?" is interesting
as it reminds me that so many people here seem to make Tony predictions without having seen all the possible entries in a category...
There is a reason that all Tony voters are required to attend and see all the eventual nominated categories to be able to make an informed choice -- at least in theory - from among the nominees...
I often get the senses that many people here just plug their favorite performer/show or worse, only the one or two that they know or have seen, without really having the full picture of all the nominated work

I never thought I'd see the day when I'd been rooting for a mediocre show like Memphis to win, but ANYTHING but that Afrobeat show has my vote.

AI has no shot. Memphis is blah and people will want something interesting to capture america's interest like "wtf is that?". it's already opening in London.
getttting clooooooser....
FELA! won't win Best Musical. The fact it got 11 nominations is just because it was a filler for most categories. Remember The Color Purple being nominated for 9 awards? How much did they win?
MEMPHIS should take it and probably will, just because of its touring values.
FELA! is far more deserving than the mediocre MEMPHIS.

Fela! all the way! It's the most original new show to be nominated...and it's good!
Sort of odd to see someone suggest that Fela's 11 nominations are "just filler" especially considering how many categories American Idiot, Sondheim on Sondheim, an the bunch of revivals could have knocked it out of (sets, lighting, actor, orchestrations--it may be a bad year, but those were still competitive categories). It's a divisive show, but folks, you have to just accept that there are people who LOVE it. But I do suspect Memphis will take the Tony, not because I've ever encountered a single person who loved it, but because it doesn't drive anyone to the point of rage. It's way too mediocre to encourage that passionate a response.

How does it make up for Passing Strange not winning? Because it's a
Majority black cast? And Who says Passing
Strange even deserved to win? What a
silly statement
I just hope it wins so all these hyperbolic drama queens who say "If FELA wins the Tony I will..." follow through on their actions.
"FELA! is far more deserving than the mediocre MEMPHIS."
Agreed, although I don't think Fela! deserves it either.

i just wanna make sure that all the people who said "if fela wins i will ___" actually do what they say they would do. unless its just blanketed sophomoric hyperbole.
I think a few people said they would stop seeing broadway shows. It's between Memphis and Fela now...If Jay-z and will and jada smith come out and actually do press for FELA now and help it, they are a lock.
Wow i predicted this on march 14th? I am really smart.:)
