I enjoyed this far more than Memphis and I have to see The Addams Family again to make the decision between the two. I think American Idiot will pull a Spring Awakening.
However, after seeing THE ADDAMS FAMILY last week, I think FELA's chances of winning have greatly improved. FELA got rave reviews from all the critics...and I have a feeling THE ADDAMS FAMILY won't be so lucky.
It will be interesting to see how AMERICAN IDIOT shakes things up. Updated On: 3/14/10 at 11:22 AM
Well, if the Tony Awards want to lose whatever credibility they have left, giving an award to FELA! would be the way to go .....

I'm reasonably sure that FELA! will be nominated. As such, at least one number will performed at the Tony awards and, that, I fear, will be its undoing with middle class America. The heart of this show is Afrobeat, which is not to everybody's liking. Many out-of-towners will be turned off to seeing the show once they get a sense of what they're in for. I remember when Passion (I'm NOT comparing the two shows) won in 1994, too many people were turned off by the number and the show was gone in six months. Beauty and the Beast, however, WAS to a large segment of the viewers' taste and it ran and ran and ran (and I'm NOT defending Beauty by any means). In other words, FELA! is facing a lose-lose situation. If it's not nominated, its days are numbered; if it is nominated and wins, IMO it won't last out the year.
I can't see Tony voters from the theaters on the road ever voting for a show that does not shout "universal hit" for their tour lineups... Fela just does not speak to people the way it could have, despite it's great cast and choreography
I'm holding out for Sondheim on Sondheim. Revues have won in years when there isn't a standout among the original shows. I'd rather see a semi-Sondheim show win over all these other shows.
But if it were among the mentioned shows, I think American Idiot has the best shot.
FELA! was awful, it truly doesn't deserve to win. I hope Memphis is nominated.

I think Addams Family and Fela both definitely get nominated. I agree with ljay's list, though I think that the backup for Sondheim on Sondheim will be Million Dollar Quartet. After seeing it tonight, I could see a lot of critics being like "this was fun"! I still think Sondheim takes the last spot though.
