They’re called carabiners, and they are used to link together ropes and harnesses when climbing.

Ah. I can only say I’ve seen them on people’s belt loops.

No, it was not that. It was an orange carabiner which is a climbing tool, but more specificaly it's a also symbol from the lesbian community. It's what the "ring of keys" was in Fun Home, etc, similar to how gay men would use hankies in jeans pockets. It's also very useful to use on a backpack to clip on a water bottle, etc. They come standard on many backpacks nowadays.

REDWOOD basically gave away a $1.50 Home Depot hook. Nice.

To be fair, they didn’t have to give away anything at all…
This is a fairly recent trend at first previews and not every production is beholden to participate.

They gave a gift that is relevant to the show and not something generic and typical. I think that is nice.

This particular one retails for around $20. Hope Brody's next first preview bequeaths them something that retails for at LEAST $50 to be sufficient.

Wow. Shocking for the cost of those tickets. They still have no rush or lottery announcement either?

Looks like they’re giving out tote bags in the line at Boop.

Don't know if they ran out of the bags or simply stopped giving them out, but I wasn't given one, and I didn't see anyone else get one either. The two people in the seats next to me have them though.
There was a first preview postcard in the Playbill.

Posting here as well-
Smash had a special version of the Bombshell poster from the show noting the first preview.

Red bandana's on everyone's seat at "Dead Outlaw" tonight. Anything other than another tote I was happy with. :)

Forgot to post here that Just in Time gave out retro posters of Groff as Darrin. They also gave tote bags to anyone who had originally booked the cancelled first preview. Very generous.
