I just got a call from Telecharge telling me that the first preview of NERDS has been canceled and my tickets would be refunded.
Will this be another Mambo Kings/Fat Pig situation?
I doubt anyone is surprised by this seeing as how it's a month and a half away from beginning previews and no cast has been announced. Wonder what's actually going into the Longacre.

Nerds the musical just doesn't sound appealing at all. How did it manage to get on Broadway?

Wait. They actually announced and put this on sale? God, I haven't seen a single article about it!
Oh geez. I hate seeing theatre fail, even if they are encouraging cell phone use. Hope they can get back on track. And perhaps maybe some more publicity.
It's been on sale for a while now- I think they announced it as soon as the closing for Allegiance was announced.
The show's website is still in beta with zero info about anything and, as Clyde mentioned, not a single member of the cast has been announced. How do they not know who will be playing Gated and Jobs?
The title is such a turnoff. My friend was saying all he can think of when he hears it is the candy and all I can think off is the Revenge of the Nerds series.
All I can think of is Revenge of the Nerds too.

If this actually gets to open I'm going to be kind of upset that this got to be on Broadway and Rebecca didn't (I know it's annoying I've just been wishing for a English cast recording of it)
it's supposed to start previews on March 31 & open on April 21. If the first few previews get cancelled, how much further can they push back opening night?? What's the latest date for the Tony cut-off?

I'm assuming they don't think they are getting nominated. Maybe performing would help them, however..
Oof. That's not good. I mean they had like 5 days of auditions already.

And they literally JUST had auditions. They are cutting this all pretty close, aren't they?
Wow, this news should be shocking to no one. This show is already a mess. Maybe it's a simple score with simple script and staging, hence they only need 5 weeks of rehearsal.
Why are they rushing this in? I know sometimes a theater becomes available and you feel like you have to take advantage when opportunity knocks, but if you come in before the piece is ready you are doomed to failure.
I'm not aware of the history of Nerds, but it screams NYMF show. Does anyone know if that's the case? Won't they still need to make changes, perhaps significant ones, around whomever they cast? Shouldn't there be at the very least an intense workshop with the Broadway cast, if not an out of town or off-Broadway production?
I think I had heard there was some kind of out-of-town production, but it was a while ago (over a year ago). Not sure where or when exactly.
Philly, 2013. http://www.playbill.com/news/article/nerds-starring-stanley-bahorek-and-matt-bradley-begins-return-engagement-at-212196
Thanks for the link. Looks like there was a production in 2007 and this "return engagement" in 2013. Stanley Bahorek played Gates; he was excellent as Benjamin Britten in February House.

I saw it in 2007 and I can barely remember anything about it.

Wasn't Wesley Taylor attached to this at one time?

There was another production in early 2013 with Darren Ritchie, Diana DeGarmo and Leslie Kritzer in NC http://m.playbill.com/news/article/photo-call-first-look-at-broadway-aimed-nerds-musical-with-darren-ritchie-s-201749

I saw the NC production and really enjoyed it overall, as did the people I went with. That being said, I work in the tech industry and that may have added to my interest. The only major negative I remember is this Italian clown character that came in toward the end that I thought made no sense at all.

It could have a bigger stage and a better rake but the Longacre isn't a terrible house. Can't they get anything better than this in there?
I truly thought this was a Revenge of the Nerds musical at first. And whenever I see the title all I can think of is: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gZEdDMQZaCU

Oops, I thought it was about Revenge of the Nerds, too. This timing is surprising--has another musical been on such a short schedule without a cast a month before previews... And succeeded?

Allegiance must have had ZERO advance if it's being kicked out for Nerds.
I wonder if they realize that their first preview will now be on April Fool's Day.
Do we think that they might use a lot of the 2013 cast for this transfer, since they would still be familiar with the material? Maybe that's why they haven't started rehearsals yet? I suppose I'm just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
