I've always maintained that Zac could be a gigantic star if he focused on his musical side. He's a natural.

But he's publicly said that he wants to move on to dramatic and non-singing/dancing roles in his career.

It must have been a while ago. I suspect the casting of Grease will include a lot of people already tied in to FOX.

I hope they get people with plenty of acting and singing experience. Also, just because FOX is the home of 'American Idol' does not mean that they need to use 'Idol' contestants for this. One of the show's alums had acting chops that were JUST OKAY at best when she played Maria Von Trapp.

I hope ABC will do Disney musicals like 'Beauty and the Beast Live!' next if the film Bill Condon might be directing is not based on the Broadway musical.

Maybe Disney/ABC is thinking of doing a musical? I know a big time regional theatre close to me wanted the rights and they were told no and that they were holding off giving out the materials for a while.

This would be a good opportunity for a reality show to cast the actors. Unlike what NBC did for Grease, more people would actually get to see the winners perform on the actual broadcast. Then they can just cast a huge star for Teen Angel. Unfortunately, due the the show being Grease, it would just be a copy of NBC's prior reality show.

Being a Grease purist, I'm disappointed they are interpolating songs from the film, something the producers of SOM

Love this! It looks like NBC's success has definitely started the other networks thinking!
I give two thumbs up for Zac Efron and Taylor Swift. Wasn't there recent talk of Taylor doing a musical? If they can get those two, the ratings will be sky high.

Casting shows like Grease is always a dilemma. Do you hire teenagers who are age-appropriate? Do you hire 20-something's who can possibly pass as teens? OR do you just hire people who would be great in the roles regardless of their ages? I saw Adrian armed play Danny when he was 43. Rosie O'Donnell was 35 when she played Rizzo. I'd rather see the people I chose than a bunch of Disney channel kids who I've never seen before.

I actually HATE Grease, but I'm still excited about this possibility. The more live theater we can expose folks to, the better!

I wonder if they'll neuter it.

As fantastic a trend as this could be, it would really suck if the networks do the high school versions instead of the original material.

Even pro productions don't use the original material anymore, though.

I'd think Skyler Astin would be a strong front runner for Danny.

Ariana Grande could be someone I could see them targeting for Sandy.

If Swifty is anywhere near this I won't watch it.
