With Drowsy closed, and Spelling Bee and Les Miz closing soon, which long running/open run shows do you think are on their last legs.
Jersey Boys?
I hope your joking.
I would say Chorus Line and Xanadu and maybe even Avenue Q.

With the running costs so low, ACL isn't going anywhere.
My guess is The Color Purple will be gone in the next year, after all SHREK wants their theatre.
I also wouldn't be surprised to see Avenue Q on it's way out.
I bet TCP wil close by Summer/Fall 2008. Then again, Oprah is their producer, so it could run for 5 more years....
Avenue Q is another one I could see closing. And maybe Hairspray.
I think Avenue Q has seen better days.
Hairspray has atleast another 1-2 years. TCP isn't done yet.
I think Avenue Q.
Hairspray I wouldn't see leaving with in the next year. I'd give till 2010.
I really think Grease will be gone within a year.
I honestly don't think Oprah is a big reason for The Color Purple's success. I think the show alone draws people and Fantasia drew people in. Oprah only put 1 million in so they could use her name. And, from what I read, they didn't even need her 1 million. But I think it may have a year left.
I think Rent will pack it in by the end of the summer. They will announce the closing in January sometime, thand there will be much fanfare, and they'll get a nice spike in business during the slow winter months.
I also don't believe that Legally Blonde or Avenue Q will see 2009.
I think that Rent will be gone by mid-2008. A Chorus Line's got really low running costs, and they've done well for the most part, so I don't think they'll be going anywhere.
I read somewhere ACL is closing in April sometime. I can see Chicago closing. All my favorite shows are closing. DAMN!
Double posting sucks!
Where did you hear that?
If they are at all serious about a TCP movie musical, it seems stupid they will close the show before that, but then again I don't have much faith in humanity, lol.

They have beens saying that RENT is going to close for the past seven years!
It is in a theater that is not in demand at all, the running costs must be fairly inexpensive, and they aren't losing money! Why close it?
Same goes for A Chorus Line.
And, as long as CHICAGO can continue to fill their roles with D list celebrities it has a year of life left AT LEAST!
By the time TCP movie gets around to being made, the musical will have barley any life left in it, I would be surprised if they can keep it open that long. My guess is it will be gone in time for Shrek to open.
i believe avenue q has cheap running cost compared to other broadway shows..their theater is also VERY tiny..and everytime i'm there the orch is filled..and rent won't close...no one wants that theater..and it has very cheap running costs..although they do need a "fresher" cast..
I've heard rumors of top secret TCP MM casting going on. And they want it out by next Christmas

Why is the Nederlander so undesireable? Is it due to its location, current state, or a combination of both?

I would imagine it's a bit of both.
I don't see how The Nederlander is in a bad location. Were the white paint streaks on the ceiling made during Rent's run?
