This is by far one of the worst shows I have ever seen on a Broadway stage. It is not even so bad it's good like Margaritaville. This is just bad bad.
I honestly could not find one redeeming quality about it. The music sounds like it was written by someone who has never heard music before. The lyrics feel like they were scratched out with a crayon by a fourth grader. Ken Davenport's book is beyond embarrassing, with a simplistic plot, devoid of surprises or even characters that are anything other than stereotypes. It's filled with cheesy jokes not worthy of the kind of bad sitcom that gets cancelled after two episodes. The acting is hammy, the set is cheap looking. The lighting has two settings: bright, and super bright. John Rando, often a dependable and clever director, apparently has no idea what to do with this material, but who would? Hal Prince couldn't turn this rotten turkey into a satisfying holiday feast.
I will say that the crowd around me cackled like a pack of wild hyenas from start to finish, so take that under consideration, but I felt as if I was at a Trump rally and the brains of everyone there had been sucked out of their skulls.
Oh yeah, and if you want a sippy cup of cheapo wine filled all the way to the top, it will run you about $39.00. But bring extra money because you will need all the booze you can swallow to get through this piece of trash.

For the most part, the kind of peoplewho usethis message board is not the target audience for the show.
"
I can't figure out who the target audience for this show is. Are they heavily advertising in Jersey or something, being that it is set there?
Given literally every single review of this show someone says everyone around them was laughing/having a good time, I think people here need to learn to enjoy things instead of picking them apart

Nope. Sorry. This is a piece of garbage. And this is said by someone who loves trash. I love camp stuff like John Waters movies and anything campy and fun. I love laughing and having a good time. This is not that. This is a very sad and embarrassing "show". I don't know how to explain the people laughing at everything, except that it seemed to be a very heavily comped crowd. And people who get comps are often urged to be enthusiastic. But I dunno, Maybe everyone was drunk. Regardless, this remains dreck.

Hi, Ken."
Ok, I'm not saying that the show is good or bad because I haven't seen it. But why can't people seem to enjoy themselves? It's the same reason why I don't understand why people walk out of things. You paid for your ticket. You knew what you were getting in to *cue Airplane! reference*. But seriously, you're at a Broadway show. The least you could do is fake a smile. There are millions of people that wish they could be you right now.
Having been in the orchestra for Bette Midler and Hamilton for example, and having been to a ton of marginal shows where the whole audience were somehow involved in the production, I’m pretty sure the more expensive the ticket, the more enthusiastic the reception.
Otherwise maybe between posting everything non-negative here, Ken squips the audience each night. There can’t be any other explanation.

Except if it is a piece of total crap that doesn't belong on Broadway. Once you see it, come back and comment some more. Your opinion may change.
But all this business of accusing the show's fans of being Ken Davenport or his employees is kind of ridiculous. It's one thing to call out a super obvious shill, but to just blindly accuse people of being Ken Davenport just because they like the show is excessive. Even if it's supposed to be hyperbolic, it's still a cheap and juvenile way to dismiss people's opinions and posts.
That said, saying "people need to learn to enjoy things" is kind of doing the same thing.
Can't we just respect that we have different opinions from each other?

You have the wrong audience. People on BWW join this board to have discussions about all things theater. They are passionate about their views, and it's important you understand that. You are not on some tourist website or a place where clueless people go to get recommendations. Telling us to basically shut up and enjoy a garbage production? Laughable and utterly ridiculous. We get to have any opinion we want of a show. Fake a smile? GTFOH.
I didn’t like Mean Girls, I fact I fell asleep in Act 2 and only partially due to jetlag, but it doesn’t freak me out or infuriate me that it seems really popular, or that all the teens were going nuts for it on the night.
Saw it last night. The whole thing kind of felt like one of those cheesy 80s movies that you used to watch on Channel 11 on a rainy Saturday afternoon. It gets by on a few genuine laughs and some very good performances, but ultimately forgettable. Did I like it? No. Did I hate it? No. The songs mostly terrible? Oh god yes. But somehow, I had a good time.

What a ridiculous series of statements. I paid for a meal that tasted rancid - should I eat the whole thing? After all, there are starving people in the world. A shirt I bought fell apart the first time I washed it - should I still wear it? After all, there are people that can't afford new clothes.
It's my money, and more importantly, my time. If I feel my time is being thoroughly wasted, and I am unhappy -- why should I stay? And why the hell should I smile about it? For whose benefit is THAT?
I haven't seen this show, I don't plan to - it sounds like the type of show I would absolutely hate, so I'll save my money for one (or four or five or six) other shows that I don't feel that way.
And there have been plenty of people here that didn't hate it, and they all have the right to say whatever they want to about it.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

You are rude, arrogant, and condescending. You do NOT represent the members of BWW or those who are theatre goers. You present BWW members as some superior elite group who transcend all. No...that is just you.
You say everyone gets to say what they want and then you trash someone for their opinion. Hypocrite, much?
Allow me educate you. Anyone can say ANYTHING they like about a show. Period. They can say it here or elsewhere. And you have NO control on what they can say.
