On this week's episode of The World According to Glenn podcast, host Kevin Jacobsen discussed the Sunset Boulevard musical with Tom O'Brien. They also touched upon a hypothetical film adaptation, which Tom said would be very expensive to produce if it were inspired by Trevor Nunn's original staging. (@1:22:40)
As ever, this continued crusade by Glenn Close to make the media think this movie is ever happening is not not giving shades of Norma. It’s not exactly sad; the woman is just trying to get a movie made that probably should have been made decades ago now. But at this point, she needs to give up the ghost.

This fall, she’ll travel to Berlin to shoot a “Hunger Games” prequel, “Sunrise on the Reaping,” playing the malevolent Drusilla Sickle, and then to London for “An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good,” a limited series based on the Swedish author Helene Tursten’s stories about a woman who ends up killing those who annoy her. After that, she’ll return her attention, as ever, to “Sunset Boulevard.” The latest script, by Chris Terrio, who won the 2013 adapted screenplay Oscar for “Argo,” opens with a montage of Norma at the height of her fame. “You see what she was, and then you [meet] the woman,” Close says. Lloyd Webber, who also hopes it’ll get made, sounds more cautious. “What people have got to remember is that the rights to ‘Sunset Boulevard’ are very jealously guarded by Paramount because they regard the Billy Wilder movie as one of the jewels in their crown,” he says. “She’s tried, I’ve tried, everyone’s tried. Ultimately, it’s going to be their decision.” (A source at the studio, which has undergone multiple regime changes and a merger with Skydance Media since the film was in development, says there hasn’t been any recent movement on the project.)
Although she’s far from ready to admit defeat, Close knows that the odds are against her. “I’m now pretty sure that I won’t have enough time to do everything that I want,” she says soberly.”"
Doesn't sound like anything that a sober person would ever say. This is more "unrealistic" than Streisand doing GYPSY. (alright -- they're EQUALLY unrealistic).

I love she is fighting for this...........don't give up.
It's great she loves the project, and it's clear that she is as active and vital as she's ever been and it seems like that'll be the case for many more years. But this ain't happening with her now. She should give it up, shift to trying to marshal the project as a producer, and give the opportunity to somebody else.

Are you serious? What’s your problem? Why can’t Glenn do it? Wouldn’t be the first veiled ageist thing you’ve said on this board.
I'm not saying in *anyway* that Glenn Close is Norma Desmond, or Norma Desmond-like person, but it's a little ironic she's pursuing this film for all these years in this manner ...

Give up the ghost, Glenn. This has become your Salome.

I rather want her to continue pushing for it, for this very reason.

She’s now old enough to play Norma’s mother. Norma Desmond is 50 years old and Glenn is 78 years old.

You are now posting drivel on this one thread under at least 3 different screen names. Give it up, Sally.

There isn't one single reason for this film of a mediocre musical to be made.
