Looking more like a CANDIDE done in a mediocre state school theater department, with insufficient funding and serious misconceptions about what "multiculturalism" means.
I take offense to that.
Anyways, I am so bored by Telly Leung.
Why has no one answered CurtainPullDowner's question: Does Hunter take off his shirt? Sounds like that may be in the top 3 most compelling reasons to see this...

I will answer. He does not take off his shirt
I actually can't wait to see this. Doesn't look ground breaking, but I think regardless of how GOOD it is - it's an original take on the show, which is something I always love to see. Plus, I love to see an unknown cast lead a show. They all seem to be fantastic talents.
I will say, I've never seen the show, but I love the movie SO much. Not only because it's so odd, but the performaces! Victor Garber will always be Jesus to me. :) Also, as stated before, you get the Jewish vadeville, Laugh-In sense of humor and amazing NYC locations, including the (at the time) new twin towers.
"He does not take off his shirt."
Why in heaven was he hired?
True 'dat. Hopefully they survey preview audiences and get his shirt off by the end of previews. There's no reason that man should be wearing much of anything for the baptism scene or the finale.
Baptism, yes. But Jesus has been crucified on an electric fence dozens of times without shedding clothing.
Speaking of which, how do they kill him in this one? Do they drown him in the jacuzzi?

Clearly, CurtainPullDowner heard "the coming of the Lord" and totally misunderstood.
I really hope I like it! I usually love the shows that people think are bad. I want to see it so bad!

Shocker. You also act in shows people think are bad.

Whizzer, your comparison to Hair isn't really apripo. Hair has a plot that's about the Viet Nam war and therefore it really doesn't lend itself to being updated. BTW I think your review is extremely articulate and, like any review, it's one person's opinion. Personally I don't see any compelling reason for a revival - it really is a product of its time i.e. a relic - but I'd like to see it succeed. More shows = more audiences = more work for everyone.

"Do you mean that they'll eat it up with a green condiment on top, or that they'll eat it up with great pleasure? "
You're a hot dog, but you'd better not to try to hurt her, Fra....
Oh, wait, wrong show... (but only just barely! Hahaha)
All kidding aside, I had a good time at the show on Friday night. It's not a revelatory event by any stretch, but taken at face value, it's an enjoyable experience and Hunter is beyond adorable. There's something very very likeable and appealing about his Jesus... Maybe not the most powerful voice on Broadway, but at least he has a nice folk rock tone and a steady good vibrato (unlike Mr. Hayes' jackhammer vibrato from last season!) in some ways it was like watching the Peanut's gang all grown up telling us the story of Jesus... And that was sweet in it's own way.

Can we all try to focus on the positive here? Anna Maria Perez de Tagle has the best name EVER.
That is all.
Okay, also, I kind of want to see this now in the hopes that it's so bad it's good. I'm hoping the trampoline scene is a jawdropper a la Kevin Anderson using his guitar as a machine gun in Brooklyn or Arachne's mystifying ode to shoes in Spider-Man.
Someone's feeling pretty proud of his decision not to invest in this at the moment. Hint: someone is me.

Seriously Blaxx? Your gonna sink that low?
According to a poster on ATC, Celisse Henderson was out of last night's performance, along with James. Has she been injured, as well.
What's with all the injuries only a few days into previews? Is Godspell becoming this year's Spider-Man?
