If the show had been stopped or interrupted in some way I think we would have heard about it by now. But all we know is that he was arrested after the show. If he was doing something inappropriate I'm sure he'd have been promptly removed. I'm going to guess that he was simply sitting on stage and was seen by Kerry who then alerted staff to his presence.
WannaBe...you beat me to it. I was thinking that the whole time I was reading this thread and was planning on posting it. Broadway actors are "out and about" (no comments from the peanut gallery) more than movie/tv actors. Not just at the stage door but there are so many Broadway events that any of us can go to and see/talk to them. Signings, musical reviews, Broadway events, etc. And since they're so easily accessible it's also easy for some of these people to see the actors as their "friends". It can lead to problems if people don't understand that there is a line.
Oh my god! I hope Kerry's ok now. I love her so much that it makes me sick to see her being stalked like that. Well I'm hoping that's the last of it. I give her my support always no matter what!!
Certainly sounds like someone on here!
I agree: if something ACTUALLY happened IN the theater we probably would have heard about it. BUT if this is a person that's been bothering her...he's probably been warned; and then when he was spotted he was whisked away.
I suppose its a trade-off. There isn't paparazzi following around B'way actors which is great...but as another poster said: but the public has much easier access to them (which isn't a problem except in times like this.)
For example: since I was in the city last week, I went up to the B'way League Softball games. No one there making a fuss, all just going on. I know I've seen interviews with a number of b'way folks that talk about how seldom they get stopped when they are not officially connected to the show. Not that they don't get recognized, just seldom approached.
I love NY'ers.
I hope that the rest of us Broadway fans will keep an eye out for out fave stars. With all the terrorism in the world it's really horrible to think of anything bad happening to Kerry or anybody else we care about.
Like it says in the subways 'If you see something say something!'
Really. Terrorists and Bway actors? I hadn't heard the conspiracy theories on that one.
Cuz that's the way the Taliban thinks.
(sorry for the snarkiness)
Wow... that is horrible !!!!
Best to Kerry !! Very sad !
dramamama611 - I consider stalking as a form of terrorism, as in 'to terrorize someone.' Nobody mentioned 'the Taliban' ... snarky indeed!
<< They said he also stalked Laura Bell Bundy for a while. (I guess he has something for blonde Broadway gals)
>>
Really scary, as Kerry and Laura Bell as very good friends !
But a stalker's intent (when its a fan type thing) is not usually to frighten them. They usually believe that they can get thier attention and become friends or more. (The sole purpose of TERRORISM is indeed to instill fear based on power)
I'm not trying to make light of the situation for any person that is being stalked...of course that is serious. I just think your post was a bit: over the top.
I wasn't going initially going to respond in this thread but in the interest of calming (somewhat) people's fears and specualtion, let me just say that the person (who was identified by the HH staff) was removed from the HH area and did NOT see the show nor was on stage - but was in the alley way waiting for the cast to come out.
"And since they're so easily accessible it's also easy for some of these people to see the actors as their "friends". It can lead to problems if people don't understand that there is a line."
And that is why taking the subway is not very prudent.
Thanks for the info
Shouldn't this be a cautionary tale to the handful of people who repeatedly stagedoor certain shows, sometimes 7 times a week (much like the arrested man) and half the time haven't SEEN the show on that particular day? It's stalking any way you slice it.
AMEN Grand! This has been discussed many times on many threads and *should* open some eyes, probably won't but it should.
Allright fess up--it was you, wasn't it Robbie?
I sometimes find it difficult to understand why stage actors are always an easier target than movie stars. What I mean is film stars always have about over 50 security guards surrounding them, making it hard to target but with actors likewise they only have 1 or 2 guards while some have none.
Apart from that, I hope Kerry's ok now and I can't wait to buy her album. Even watching her video brightens my day. :)
lol no it wasn't me, Rentheadut.
First off... I only stagedoor when I see the show. Secondly, I live in Long Island and am poor.
And I think everyone knows how much I heart that cast and would NEVER do anything that would harm them in anyway much like many others on here.
As I said before, I don't get the whole "stalking" thing... As if Kerry was going to leave her family to be with this scary guy? Eek-ness...
I don't get why people stagedoor if they don't see the show. "Well, I didn't see the show today, but I bet if I had it would have been great?"
That's just weird.

I saw some guys the other day with pics running back and forth between the doors of "A Catered Affair" and "Boeing-Boeing", trying to get autographs. A lot of people do it as a "hobby", or for the money (selling on Ebay, I assume--- not a big Ebay junkie)- It was really freaky.
I've seen that too. Creepy.
I can understand if someone is visiting NYC and wants something signed by a particular actor and they don't come out so they come back another day to get it signed.
There is nothing wrong with stage dooring after seeing a show several times. What matters is how you conduct yourself during your time at the stage door. If your mindset is that you know that they are just actors being nice enough to sign something for you then you would act differently then if you actually thought that you can be friends with them. If you thought that yo can be friends with them then you would act in a totally different way which would be apparent to them and come off as wired.
Look at all the fan groups for a lot of Broadway shows. The Rentheads, The Shiz Kids, The Guilty Ones and Fanadus. These are people that see the show often and I am sure that there are people in those groups who stage door frequently. There are just as many people in these fan groups who know how to behave at a stage door and probably just as many people in these groups that don't. It is the ones who don't know how to act that get noticed as being "wired" in some form or fashion.
As I said there is nothing wrong with stage dooring a lot of times for a particular show. It all comes down to how you act when your at the stage door.
I didn't say there was anything wrong with stagedooring when you have, in fact, seen the show. As long as you behave properly I don't see the problem. HOWEVER, when someone hasn't seen the show and decides to stagedoor anyway, I think that is strange.
I didn't say I disagreed. I find it wrong and disrespectful to stage door for a show that you yourself have seen.
I have heard of people wanting to get an autograph of a particular actor or actress and so they go back the next night to try again even if they didn't see the show. Even that is a bit much in my mind but I can sort of understand it.
I was responding to Grand Motel's comment that stage dooring a show a bunch of times is automatically stalking pure and simple. I was saying that it is about how you act during your time at the door not the number of times that you go that can make it creepy.
This is a very interesting discussion. I wonder if the theater district in NYC is more susceptible to this?? It's just easier to hang out around those theaters.
