Martin Short will be playing Wilbur.

Kristen as Velma is fantastic!! Basically just Wilbur left to cast/announce.

Martin Short was announced for Wilbur awhile ago.

Huh? They announced Martin Short as Wilbur over a month ago but they still haven't announced Seaweed, Link or Penny...

For those clueless ones, here's the rundown of who's already been confirmed and announced:
Tracy Turnblad: Maddie Baillio
Edna Turnblad: Harvey Fierstein
Wilbur Turnblad: Martin Short
Motormouth Maybelle: Jennifer Hudson
Corny Collins: Derek Hough
Velma Von Tussle: Kristin Chenoweth

I just saw somewhere that Becca Tobin ( she played Kitty in Glee) is cast as Amber? Is this true?

I would love to see Ana gasteyer as the female authority figure and David Hyde pierce as the male authority figure. Dove Cameron as Amber. Tyler James Williams as seaweed. I can't figure out who will play link, penny, and lil Inez.

Would you be kind enough as to provide a source???

I don't think I've been as underwhelmed by the casts any of the other live broadcasts as I am for this one. Martin Short is the only compelling cast member for me. I hope to be proven wrong.

I'm worried she won't shine nearly as bright as rest of these stars. Has anyone floated the idea of Kristen Bell for Amber yet? I know she's old, but Grease Live got away with it...

Ariana Grande was on Snapchat yesterday listening and singing along to the OBC of "Hairspray" with her friends at home. Obviously it doesn't mean anything, but her schedule looks like it'll be free for this...

Seems many aren't aware that these "live" musicals rehearse for about 3 months - it's not a week rehearsal schedule then go "live". That's why casting these things is tough because tons of artists are interested but don't have a full 3-4 months open availability.

I don't know what in my message made it seem as though I don't know the rehearsal length for something like this. I suppose you just get off on being overly pretentious and talking down to people.

Thanks for bumping this thread! I forgot the name of it when I posted the Ariana news yesterday and just ended up doing a new thread.
I would have thought Corbin Bleu would have been a good choice but he'll be working on Holiday Inn. I think if they were to get Jordan Fisher who played Doody in Grease Live, he would be great. Evan Ariana's Victorious co-star Andre Harris could do it; he was on Broadway when he was a kid in Caroline Or Change.

You're right. Andre was his character's name! Lol.

So, it looks like Becca Tobin ("Rock of Ages" on Broadway, "Glee"
is Amber. This is the only source for it, but it's an official NBC website. It looks like they accidentally included her. I personally think she'd be great. A perfect choice, actually. Especially opposite Chenoweth. She has a great voice.

hmm that's strange

Poor Becca Tobin, typecast as the b*tch.

According to the NBC Hairspray Live web page, Derek McLane is back on board as production designer, Mary Vogt is the costume designer and Lon Hoyt is back as the musical director.
