Anyone know why this show has had no B-Roll footage at all? Even on Broadway I can't remember it having any B-Roll. Seems like an odd choice in today's day and age.

It has B roll from off broadway.

Just wanted to say thanks to the people who advised me earlier on this thread to go for seats closer to the stage my first time seeing Hedwig instead of trying to be thrifty. I luckily scored a one-day sale ticket for orchestra row F (for $40) a while ago and saw it for the first time last Thursday. I loved it so much that I took my chances and bought a half price ticket from Bostix to see it again on closing night in Boston last night. It was general admission somewhere in the orchestra or mezz and I ended up in orchestra row A! I was all the way to the side and had to lean for a few parts, but it was still amazing. For anyone else debating on ticket location, closer is definitely way better for this show to see all of Hedwig's expressions and the audience interaction up close.

In terms of Boston crowds, Thursday night the theater seemed mostly full, at least the orch and mezz. Sunday night the orchestra was only half full and the mezz and balcony were almost completely empty. The small crowd was still fun, but it did make me sad that more people weren't seeing this stellar production. I'd say it was because it was Tony night, but I saw a lot of discount tickets available for other nights too.

I found Euan Morton's performance both nights to be incredibly powerful, and I am absolutely thrilled to have his version of Hedwig as my first and currently only memory of the character. He was funny, energetic, raw, open (fully emotionally dilated!), and moving, and his singing blew away Neil Patrick Harris's on the album (much as I love NPH and that recording). As an added bonus, he's also apparently a nice guy. I got to ask him a quick question at the stage door, which he thoughtfully answered, and he very kindly made sure to talk to everyone waiting there even though it was obvious he hoped to get out quickly and must have been exhausted. I'm offering this as a counterpoint to Wee Thomas2's opinion of Euan's performance, which may have been an off night for Euan unless we just prefer different performance aspects. I was lucky enough to see two different Yitzaks. Both Hannah and Shannon were excellent and played off Euan well. If you can see the tour in DC, I very strongly recommend it!

As far as I can tell, Hedwig did not sell well in Boston, and I'm not entirely sure why. As has already been mentioned, there was very little press and advertising. I have found both Hedwig and the Boch Center's social media adeptness to be lacking.

The show was not marketed well and, if you ask me, the tickets were overpriced.

With that said, I found Euan to be tremendous and the show tours well.

That's a good point about it not being part of the Broadway in Boston season. I'm a subscriber for that too, and I also almost didn't go to Hedwig for budget reasons. I'm glad I did, but I had to skip some other shows I wanted to see as well to do that. I wish it had been in the BinB season since Hedwig has been my favorite of all the touring shows I've seen this year and deserves a bigger audience. Then again, the Opera House may have felt like too big a venue for Hedwig, and I saw people walk out of Curious Incident of all things so who knows what the reaction to Hedwig would have been there. I'd like to think it would have won hesitant subscribers over though when they actually saw it.

It came at a bad time of the year too. The college students already left for the summer, and it would probably have been popular with students. It's finally getting warm here after a long cool spell, and people are doing more outside things. Also, it had a lot of competition with easier to sell and describe, big-name shows like Mama Mia and Wicked in town on tour and Arrabal at A.R.T. and with Boston Pride Week events happening last week. The advertising for it wasn't great as others have said. I saw some MBTA ads, but that was it aside from Hedwig being in the Pride Parade at the very end of the run. I hope it gets the bigger audience it deserves in DC and that the tour cast and crew enjoyed their time in Boston and felt the appreciation and love from the crowds here even if they were smaller crowds.

Ha! That is just what happened, my kids want to see Wicked which is an add on for Broadway in Boston so thats where the budget went! As we both subscribe to Broadway in Boston I also wonder if you think they are spreading shows over too many venues? Personally I like the Opera House, and when shows they thought may not sell as well came into town, they went to the colonial & were still included in the subscription. Now with Wang, Shubert & Opera House I feel like the subscription to BinB no longer has as many touring shows I would prefer to see....

So in this case, if BAA sees Mama Mia, Wicked, and Hedwig all looking for a venue in Boston in late May/early June, they probably went for Mama Mia and Wicked because those are safer bet to sell more tickets. Thus Hedwig ends up in the venue for the other competing company.

Maybe it also has to do with venue size. I could see the Hedwig team deliberately choosing to go to a smaller house too. I do wish they were all with the same company though or you could customize subscriptions more and do like a three show subscription instead of 5/6. Although I enjoy my subscription a lot, I would have preferred Gentleman's Guide to Murder and Hedwig to Something Rotten and King and I this year.

THANKS for the insight. I also wish we could customize the subscription and choose the shows we prefer to see. Broadway in Boston has let me drop one show from the season for the past 7 or 8 years, but with Hamilton coming in this season, they did not allow it this year. Hope that changes again next year, to free up funds for something else I would prefer to see more! Just an FYI, depending on where you live, you can also check PPAC in Providence. Their seats are less expensive, parking is cheaper, and traffic is usually much less. They also offer a 3 show Encore season.

Saw that on Facebook, too. Thrilled that this tour made such a splash, but I so wish it was running longer. Oh well
