Sorry, I'm new to the site and this isn't really a "reply" to your response, per se, but rather a reply to the thread! Spurred by the news of Lin's departure, a friend and I were planning on heading up to the city the day after our last day of school (June 15th), stay at a friend's apartment, and start to wait in line at like 4 or 5am. After reading these most recent posts I'm starting to think that we might be better off waiting in line overnight. Does anyone know the legality of this? I know we can't bring chairs, sleeping bags, etc. but are we a-okay as long as we stay awake and upright 'til the tickets go on sale? Also, does anyone who's gone recently think that would be necessary?
If you have a limited timeframe to see the show then try to stay overnight. You can bring anything but tents pretty much and just have to get rid of any chairs at like 6 am in the morning (though when I was there no one but the line sitters told us to put our chairs away so that seems to depend on who gets to the theater in the morning)
You can full on lay flat out on the sidewalk if you want at night. People laid out on the stairs and the sidewalk however they could get the most comfortable. You can sleep if you are able during the night until like early morning. From 9 am on it gets pretty busy and from 10 am onwards tickets can be offered at any time so you definitely want to have someone in line from 10 am to show time and yes you want to be awake during that time.
@gatorgirl2 Thank you so much for the insight! A few more questions if you have the time: would a blanket be alright? We'd love to play some cards or a board game with the people around us to pass the time. Also, what are the rules for getting in/getting out of line (to go to the bathroom, get food, etc). I suppose that technically since each of us could by two tickets the people around us wouldn't mind, but we're packing thermoses full of coffee and I am in no mood to pull the old NYE in Times Square trick. Thanks again!
Terribly sorry for spamming up this thread, but @gatorgirl2, when you were there, do you know approximately how many people got tickets? My sister is interested in tagging along and I'm a bit nervous bumping up our number to three.
Saw the matinee today, couldn't spot the cancellation line, was looking to gather info. Full cast was there for this wondering about Saturday matinees. Also Lin ****ed up during Hurricane which was funny
Thanks for letting us know that the full cast can be there for the Saturday matinee. I'm gearing for my trip!!! Can't wait to share my experience with you all!

No problem. According to someone on here the whole cast did last Saturday's matinee too
Hello! Just joined after lurking on this thread for months. My boyfriend and I just got back from 27 hours in the cancellation and we made it into today's matinee! (I will spare you the excessive exclamation points that I am currently feeling... here's a few: !!!!!!!!)
I could go on forever about the actual show but you all already know (and if you don't know, now you know)
The cancellation line for today was LONG. Like, significantly longer than any other line mentioned in this thread. We drove down from Massachusetts yesterday, arrived at 11am, and were somewhere around 28th in line. Last night, I think 12 people got in, 5 of which were premiums. Everyone in front of us stayed the night (some were on their second night) so we were 19 and 20 in line for the overnight wait, which was way farther back than we expected. By 6am today, the line extended beyond the stage door. I lost track of its length after that but the line kept growing.
For today's matinee, 4 premiums were given out early, and then 8 standing room tickets, and that was it. We were 15th in line at this point and no one in front of us took standing room- I was a little nervous because I've heard that the view is not great, but we were in line to be in The Room Where It Happens no matter where we stood or sat. I hesitated and the woman from the box office looked me in the eye and said "you should take these" - I trusted her and I am SO VERY GLAD WE DID!
If you are offered SRO on the cancellation line, ABSOLUTELY TAKE THOSE TICKETS! For one, they are an incredible price. The view is great, we had absolutely no complaints. You can't see people on the balcony but our line sitting neighbor mentioned during intermission that you can go on the stairs behind us to see important balcony parts, so I was able to catch Daveed's entrance and other notable balcony moments during Act 2. You are also close to the bathroom (we were 0% expecting to get into the matinee and I was so unprepared, I had to run to the bathroom during Meet Me Inside and I was back to my spot by That Would Be Enough), and you can be first out for intermission if you want to rush and buy something. You have a little room to move in your spot and move around to the music which was nice (I wasn't like, full on dancing, which would have been embarrassing).
I doubt we would have gotten in tonight and I am so glad we took the standing room tickets, along with some of our awesome line neighbors, one of which is moving to India tomorrow (happy travels!). Everyone was super nice, everyone looked out for each other, cheered when people got tickets, offered up food (thank you for the GF bread, line strangers, and Ben, Pat thanks you for half of your burger!). Getting in was such a whirlwind; I started to cry when we were buying tickets and the man at the booth was like "happy tears?" and I choked out a "yes!" and then pretty much continued crying/smiling for three hours.
This has been an emotional and intense past few days. "Look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now" has really never felt more fitting. Still can't believe we saw the full cast minus Groff- everyone was out of this world! Thanks to everyone on this board for all the information- I've been studying it for months and it finally paid off! Good luck to anyone trying the line!
AHHH! CONGRATULATIONS!! I'M UTILIZING MY EXCLAMATION POINTS AND I HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN THE SHOW!! Your joy is infectious and I'm tearing up a bit reading about your awesome experience. You totally deserve it, you are such a sweetheart! Thank you for sharing your secrets and amazing story, this is seriously the loveliest and most helpful response I've ever gotten online! To be perfectly honest, I'm actually pretty excited for the line-waiting experience--it's going to be amazing to be around such dedicated fans, I'll probably be talking about it to anyone who will listen until forever (my parents are only letting me go because they have a soft spot for their camping-out-for-concerts-for-days-on-end days). Hopefully I'll be giving out shout-outs to my line buddies come 11 days from now--Seamless is on me, June 15th crowd :)
Hello all! I graduate this week and plan to go to the line for a Tuesday show next week. I want to thank you all so much for all of the tips, especially @myfavoritebrunette
I am taking a unique route that may appeal to people like me that don't want to pay full price, but also want a ticket. I will be arriving at the RRT an hour before showtime and heading on the line for the night. I hope then to purchase a semi-discounted ticket from one of the outdoor scalpers using the money I have saved up. Wish me luck on getting in! I will send another message telling you all how this works out! Thank you!

I would definitely recommend bringing cards at least. I wish I had had more mindless games to play at least on my phone. I tried reading but was too nervous/excited to concentrate but some girls behind us in line did bring cards.
You can pretty much leave the line any time you want for short periods and rejoin it. Everyone holds your place. Longest my line buddy left was like two hours and no one said anything so it should be fine if you are only getting two tickets between you two. If you are looking to get four tickets then its a different story and while you will be able to leave the line for short breaks you both will need to be the there the majority of the time. Also if tickets get offered while you are away then you are just miss out.
peachesthecat Congrats on seeing the show!!!!! It is such an emotional experience lol
Also adoxographer yes definitely bring a blanket-wear a long sleeve shirt at night and you can use the blanket to lay on or whatever. I used mine to support my lower back when I sat on my stool and leaned back against the wall.
nrubanobroadway good luck! I would definitely recommend NOT getting in cancellation line if you are going to show up so close to show time and just walking around the crowd going into the theater asking if anyone is selling tickets. When I was there last Friday there were no scalpers but a middle age man did say he was selling one ticket. He seemed kind of sketch so I don't know if anyone bought his ticket. I would def recommend making sure the ticket scans before you hand the money over.

Cold??? It's been 70+ degrees at night and still up in the 80's in the daytime.
Yes, like brrrr! Like "do I get out of bed and close the window or get the blanket and set it up even though it's a pain?". It's cold for me. And my cats snuggling at the foot of the bed instead of the window sill tell me the temp dropped =)

Aw! You're welcome. But don't go just an hour before the show starts. Ticket holders start showing up and lining up around that time as well and it can get congested and crowded in a blink, especially with people walking in all directions to other shows or trying to get home to their transportation. Give yourself some extra time.
Sounds like you won't be staying overnight to do the line. No time?
Morning! Long time lurker who is finally close enough to the city to attempt to see the show. Was planning to grab stubhub tickets at the last minute, but now with Lin's announcement that seems highly unlikely. If anyone is willing to wait in the line for me for either Wednesday show I'll gladly pay your ticket. Feel free to send me a pm and thanks!
Scalpers offering "discounted" tickets didn't happen during either of our Hamilton waits (unless by discounted, you mean $500 and $1,000 respectively, which was the cost of the tickets the two times we were offered them by scalpers 60-90 minutes before showtime and then the one guy who offered one for $400 but you had to go WITH him to the show and he was super sketchy. I will also say that, in all cases, someone behind us did buy them.
On Friday night, my cousin and I got in line at 3pm and 3:30pm. The line was long but we were there for either Saturday show. Five premium seats and seven house seats were given out for Friday, so a total of 12. We were a bit nervous after that because we were around 28th in line!
We stayed overnight which actually was a lot of fun! Everyone around us in line were great and super friendly! By the morning we were preparing ourselves that we might not even make it in either show and we'd have to stay until Sunday. When the tickets started going out I got SO nervous! Only 4 premium seats and I think 2 house seats were given out for the matinee....then standing rooms! A few standing rooms went out and we thought it was over, then the guy came out and said there were two left. We were the next two that didn't want premiums so we took them! I don't even remember running into the theatre because I couldn't believe this was happening. We were the last two to get into the matinee show!! I cried for at least the first two songs and was shaking! The show was amazing and waiting in line was SO worth it!
My friend was also waiting in line with me and unfortunately got caught off . So we were super nervous she would not get in for the 8pm show. I don't think that many tickets were released for that show as well but again SRO went out! She was one of the last to go in! Side note: she has a broken foot and was not going to let that stop her.
SRO is totally worth it!! You see great, just can't really see when they are on the second level on the stage but if you crouch down or go on the stairs you can. Daveed stole the show for me!
The entire cast was in it, I was shocked and SO happy.
Don't give up and try the cancellation line if you can! This thread was extremely helpful to us so I hope this helps someone!
I'm a bit confused about two show days. If I only want to do the line for Wednesday or Saturday evening, do I need to line up the day before, decline a matinee ticket if available and get 'bumped' into the evening? How does this system work?
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
