Hodge out of La Cage
Is he not well? Or was it pre-planned?
Could this be a trick?
Maybe he's sick, but we understand
It's his show now that he has won himself a Tony
His show, he no longer needs that TV phony
So if he's just sick then I'm a dick
But Hodge is out of La Cage.
Hodge out of La Cage,
For all we know, it's just a rumor
He could just have plans,
Maybe his glands have a small tumor
And if so, then I'm sure he's gone and had it removed
The show will be better now that his health's improved
Yes, if he's real sick I'm quite a prikc
But Hodge is outtttttt of
La Caggggggggggggggggggggge!

He was in this evening. And he was absolutely incredible. Seriously, one of the best performances I think I've ever seen onstage.
I'll post my thoughts tomorrow probably.

He was out of the matinee. I took a refund, as I don't really care for
La Cage in general. They gave me a tiny bit of
resistence and said they would only exchange the ticket... But I
explained I was from out of state and they eventually gave a refund.

Silly, Mildred. Hodge performed the FIRST performance after receiving the Tony Award. THIS is just unprofessional, not a true Tony Travesty.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 7:22amI exchanged my ticket when I saw that he would be out yesterday. I asked the usher if he was out frequently (that would have made a difference if I wanted to take a chance on seeing him at another performance or stay and see it w/o him). She said it was the first time he missed a show.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 8:08amWho went on for him? Dale Hensley or Chris Hoch? I'd be super curious to see Dale since he was also the Albin understudy back in 2004. I wonder how his performance has changed.

Worry not. Jan Maxwell already took it from him and stuck it in her bag. Apparently she's quite upset and on the warpath after going 0 for 2 Sunday night.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 1:09pmI was really dissapointed that Doug was out yesterday for the matinee. I had gotten up really early to take the bus from new jersey and rush this. Was super excited to get rush tickets sat down and still had no idea he was out because the understudy board is behind you when you walk in and would naturally not look behind you when entering. So when I saw someone enter who was not Doug I literally felt my face begin to turn red. Even though I had seen Doug 3 weeks earlier in the role I was looking forward to seeing him post Tony win. The understudy was the man who usually plays the waiter. He was not bad in anyway but it was his first time going on. I was impresse by how he didn't try to be Doug as albin. The whole time i felt like it was a performance I could have seen at my local community theatre though. His singing voice was great I must say. The thing that caught me as odd was how masculine he seemed throughout most of the show, even as zaza. It seems when he dressed up as mother anyone who heard him speak would know instantly he was a man. Another thing I found really interesting was how the understudy had completely different wigs and costumes for most of the show. I was especially suprised at the change of the "Marilyn" scene because that was one thing I laughed extra hard at with Doug. Also does anyone know why Doug was out? I heard someone with the show saying "it is what it is they want to see him cuz he just won but it is what it is"

I had a similar feeling when I saw this, and everyone was in.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 1:51pmI'm pretty sure I saw him exit the stage door last night when I was leaving 'Night Music', so I guess he was in last night.

Yes, he was in last night.
Where do these magical community theatre productions that are better than award-winning Broadway productions take place? I'd love to see one of them someday.

Just to be clear I wasn't saying the entire production was like community theatre I was talking about the performance of the man who
was on as albin. The rest of the cast was still spot on. And idk where a community theatre could find ladies like these cageles

Posted: 6/17/10 at 2:29pmandsym9001, there could have been a number of reasons why he was out on the matinee yesterday. He could have been ill, had a performance conflict, taken 1/2 the day off, etc. Through Equity, they do get vacation days, sick time, etc.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 2:30pmSo you're saying Dale Hensley of the 1987 Lincoln Center Anything Goes, the 1992 Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls, the Broadway productions of Sunset Blvd. and The Drowsy Chaperone and who previously understudied the role of Albin in the 2004 La Cage is the type of performer featured in your local community theatre? Lucky for them.

Posted: 6/17/10 at 2:46pmYes I am saying exactly that having seen him in nothing else judging him on solely what I saw at THIS performance I would hold by my statement. His I am what I am was above the standard community theatre performance but other than that I stand by what I said. I'm sure he will also improve and work through the role as he is on as Albin more as he is a seasoned actor judging by the credits you have listed and probably knows this is the case himself.
