"I thought more about your question and would like to add that the actors we've seen this season that we recognize from film - Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Liev Shreiber and Catherine Zeta Jones, etc. - have not only made a huge impact on ticket sales but have given tour de force performances and all started their careers as stage actors, dedicating themselves to making an impression in the theater. This goes to show that actors are actors, whatever the outlet, and with perseverance and drive, can cross the boundaries of the medium. In VIEW, I had the privilege of working opposite Morgan Spector, a relatively unknown actor who gave a luminous, educated performance as 'Rodolpho'. Greg Mosher could've had his pick of recognizable film actors who would've jumped at the opportunity to fill the part, but he saw something worth pursuing in Morgan and our production was the better for it."
I think "Cathy" should show up to the MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET signing (where they'll be selling a CD Hunter didn't even make it on, goshdarnit), and in front of the entire crowd just ask "Do we have a problem, Hunter?" And see how fast that little Pussy backs down and starts kissing her Tony winning ass.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I mean.. these actors DO realize that everyone can see these comments, right? People that may have clout, they know that right? Everyone has a Facebook and anyone can click on a link, and anyone can decide "You know what, what a douchebag. I don't think I want to support you." It could be a theatre-goer or a potential investor or a writer or whomever. Facebook isn't all tweens.
This is ridiculous and staggeringly unwise.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
I'm not surprised about the CZJ bashing... what I am surprised about is the absence of Scarlett Johansson bashing... but then again I didn't read all 21 pages of this thread and I ain't reading any of the Facebook crap.
"And even more importantly Kad, they've BOTH ATTEMPTED TO BECOME BIG STARS OFF STAGE! Do they forget about their TV Shows and movies?"
I knew I was forgetting something- Jen Cody certainly has no objections to lending her unique vocal talents to Disney. And I'm sure she made a mint on Princess and the Frog.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
Thank you Scarlett Johansson for class. It's a shame these out of work actors have to try to degrade people because only about 3% of the world even knows who they are, just because Catherine Zeta Jones has worked her ass to get to Hollywood (let me tell ya, Wales is alot farther from Hollywood than it looks). And these people are trying to degrade them because they're famous and they won a Tony?
Goodness gracious people. I know Hunter, Jennifer and Chris would jump their ass on a plane if they got an offer from Hollywood.
Where is STYLE? Where is SKILL? Where is FORETHOUGHT?

I guess it was ok for Scarlett to win because she was in a play. "Cathy" took an award from a MUSICAL Theatre Specialist (or an MTS as it's referred to "in the biz") and THAT is unforgivable.
Actually NEO, according to Jen Cody's facebook page, she was actually in LA for several months this year trying to get one of those TV shows or movies that would have made her one of those "outsiders." She didn't book anything. Little hypocrite indeed.
