I am going to NYC for the first time on the 29th to audition for Juliard and North Caroline School of the Arts.

And, I have never seen a show on Broadway. I was going to see GYPSY.. but.. well.. yeah.

So, what show is overall better..IN THE HEIGHTS, or BILLY ELLIOT?

I am choosing between those two because I want to see a show that I don't know allot about, and have it surprise me!

HELPPPP!

Billy Elliot, the whole current cast is phenomenal, and as for In The Heights one performer is not a reason to see the show, unless there like your role model or something. In The Heights is also going to tour soon, so if you wind up going to NCARTS you'll get a chance to see it.

Good luck with your auditions, by the way.

Billy Elliot is MUCH better than in the heights. The music, the acting, the story, the dancing, the production are all better than In the Heights. I just recently saw In The Heights because of all the hypes and good reviews and i was shocked by how predictable and boring the show was. I wasn't impressed with the score either, and acting was horrible.
Billy Elliot on the other hand pulls you into the story and you grew to care for these characters, whereas In The Heights throws it in your face with "hi we're poor. this is our lives and i have an abuela that likes to skip her medicines and here i am to rap about it." You can see the ending before the first act ends.

In The Heights. Overall everything about it is pretty amazing. The choreography is phenomenal, the score is fun and great, and the the lighting and sets and everything about it is very good. The book isn't great but it's still a great show. Also you may want to see Lin before he leaves.

Both shows are really great, special and unique. But Billy Elliot is the winner, hands down.

I vote for "Billy Elliot" as well. I'm glad that I saw ITH last spring. I found if very moving, fresh and innovative. However, when I saw "Billy", I left the theater thinking, "Wow! That's one of the best things I've ever seen."

Billy Elliot for sure!

And I wonder how many of the people who are saying ITH have actually seen both. I have, and although ITH really is a great show, Billy is the better one, IMO. I love it, but ITH is more of a telenovela onstage, while Billy is a show with AMAZING choreography(although ITH's is great too) and great songs and a much better book.

Both are great shows, and you'll have fun with either, but Billy Elliot would definitely be the one to see.

And you'll do great at your auditions, I'm sure. Break a leg!!!!

Personally, I enjoyed Billy Elliot more, but it will be around for years. Go for In The Heights

In the heights for all the above reasons (especially because Lin will still be there). Also, it will be a completely new adventure for you with an unfamiliar story. While the BE musical is not the same as the movie, if you watch the movie you know what the story on stage will be. It will also be around forever.

Or if you are around for a few days, buy an advance BE ticket in the rear mezz and try ITH lotto a couple times, and see both!

Most importantly, break a leg for each of your auditions, and let us know how they go!
