I do not think you can compare both productions.  Evita, a more popular musical, has reached a level of publicity this summer that few productions achieve. Even people who are not into musicals are hearing things.  If or when it comes to Broadway, I am expecting very high prices.  There is a lot of buzz for this production.

So according to SO’s latest video (https://www.tiktok.com/@sweatyoracle/video/7524125467029294391) it looks like Evita might be coming to Broadway much quicker than we all anticipated, apparently people involved with the show (which I’m assuming are the same ones involved with Sunset) have already started touring houses for this season and are going to make an immediate transfer (most likely February 2026), now usually I take Sweaty’s videos with a grain of salt, but if confirmed, the Best Revival of a Musical category is about to be incredibly stacked, between Ragtime, Chess, CATS: The Jellicle Ball, The Rocky Horror Show and now Evita!

^ Is that info any different from what Baz wrote in his Deadline article on opening night? I think the fact that they’re looking at theatres was already mentioned.

Yeah, but the February 2026 part wasn’t mentioned…if so that’s incredibly fast, and SO’s video did mention the Al Hirschfeld rumor which means that MR! would close up shop  in December

Love him or hate him, SO’s sources have gotten pretty good as of late. And I’m sure ATG will be involved as well this side of the pond, so they have the ability to make that happen quickly if they really want to given they’re a landlord themselves.

Ultimately, the timetable will be up to ALW.  If JELLICLE BALL is really a "go" for this season, he may not want EVITA until the following season.  Add to that he'll also have MASQUERADE going on -- so their critical reception may also impact the decision making.

To be really honest, we’re about to go through an ALW Renaissance (a “Lloyd Webbersance” as I like to call it). The critical reception for both Jellicle Ball and Evita was and is mostly positive (lord knows what the reception for Masquerade will be) but I’m very hopeful and wouldn’t be surprised if ALW approves of these 3 productions running simultaneously in the same season.

Well ALW also has two new works in the pipeline.  The Illusionist (directed by Jamie Lloyd) making the World Premiere in London in 2026 and an unannounced second project.  So I could see him wanting to get Evita and Cats back in NY this season.  I'd be surprised if they're thinking an "open-ended" run for Evita.  And Maquerade will be a unique, off-Broadway presence.

Counterargument being that ALW is a very proud man and would probably love nothing more than to have so many of his shows running in New York at the same time to (what signs would point to) at least good success for all of those that have been mentioned.

I won't pretend to know ALW's thinking, but I would think spacing out the revivals to maximize Tony chances (and possibly winning multiple back-to-back Best Revival awards) trumps having multiple shows running simultaneously.  If Evita is in fact coming this season, I could see Cats getting pushed to next fall given nothing has been confirmed yet.

At this stage of life, I wouldn’t expect him to care much about Tonys. I’d say his preference might be to have as much income in hand as soon as possible (for interest earning) and to have a great time with the accolade of “three projects running at the same time” and enjoy being the toast of Broadway once again.

Cats delaying any longer would be a mistake I think. They’ve lost a lot of their cultural top-of-mind positioning as it is.

Yeah I don’t think Jamie would’ve talked so candidly about it moving fast if it wasn’t close. He wasn’t so cavalier in talking about Sunset before it jumped the pond and they waited almost a full year. That won’t be the case here.

And worth noting he is the producer, too. A director talking this way is enthusiasm. A producer talking this way is saying what they’re trying to make happen.

Broadway prices have really hit the West End with Evita.  Unsurprising, but the numbers are escalating pretty quickly.

Went to book a ticket for a repeat visit and my £89.50 row P seat is now selling at £265.00 for future dates.  The most premium orchestra seats now seem to be at £350.

It will be interesting to see if this does anything to the conversation around low pay in the West End overall.

So far, CATS: The Jellicle Ball, does not. But I hope that changes soon.

Do you know which theatre it is?
"

Yes.

But it has a current occupant that has not yet announced it's closing. But a February 2026 opening for EVITA  looks likely.

She really does it so well. They’ve captured lighting here.
