Anyone know if there are test screenings for this soon?"
The link to sign up for one in NYC this Thursday is several posts above this one in this thread.

really wild that they finished filming in mid-June and are doing a public test screening not even two months later, wondering if they are trying to turn this around for an award season push or possibly a festival premiere?
Is it a bit late to get into any festivals?

All the major film festivals for this season are done. At this point, if it intends to qualify for the 2025 major film awards like the Golden Globes, Academy Awards, etc, they have until the month of December 2024 to qualify.

I would have to imagine anything being shown at this point will be in a pretty unfinished state. There may be studio concerns about the film overall and they’re trying to gauge what needs to be done.

I had that thought, too. A very early screening of a rough edit. Plus, very likely they were editing as they shot. And Condon's screenplays often are pretty detailed, editing-wise. So, less crafting the film in the editing bay.

Does TIFF in Toronto in September not count as this season? Still I assume it’s too late to enter the film now.
one thing is this isn’t a major studio film. That may affect how test screenings are done. I’m surprised no one has mentioned the film is handled by the production company JLo co-founded https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuyorican_Productions
Her company is one of five companies (including husband Affleck's Artists Equity) involved in the financing & production of the film... safer to spread the risk and potential rewards around as much as possible.

I could also see this slipping into New York Film Festival or AFI Fest
I don’t think it’s likely this will be part of any festivals in the 24-25 season. A very early test screening is not necessarily indicative of a film ready for an imminent premiere.
Did anyone catch the screening?

I'm equally sure no one will be mad if you have nothing but great things to say about it

I just got a cancellation notice that this overbooked. A shame, since I signed up early and had my NDA already signed. And my day planned around seeing it. :( Oh well
Yeah I was shocked, they let in A LOT more people into line than there were seats. By time got into the auditorium it was almost full and there was still a massive line outside.
Yeah glad we got there early. And with a million dollar NDA, i guess that’s the end of my thoughts on the evening lol

Same, lmao
The overbooking is the way these things tend to go. It sucks, but they don't give a **** about your time. They just want the theatre to be full. A great way to ensure that is to have more people showing up than there are seats.

All I will add is that John Kander was at the screening, and afterwards seemed very happy.
Ohh I did hear someone involved say "This seat is for Mr. John" but I didn't put it together.
i wonder if anyone will be tempted to say anything.

Most definitely. Soon enough we’ll get details as there’s always someone who thinks they’re savvy enough to cover their tracks. It’ll be deleted within minutes but people are smart to screenshot things now.
