As a pophead-in-residence JLo's popularity cannot be tied to her music career as its never really been as successful as people think with many many ups and downs that have done almost nothing to effect her stardom. Her getting this movie off the ground isn't that shocking to me as her movies fairly consistently make money or in the streaming era, bring in the eyeballs. Not huge profits but tidy little sums that are more than off for the people producing them. Which is often her. She made that movie with 20 million dollars of her own funds and allegedly sold it to Amazon for 50 so bomb or not, it made her 30 million dollars.

…who the hell is Tonatiuh? Why not Robin de Jesus?

Remember, Rob Marshall was assistant choreographer on the original Bway show. Vanessa Williams even talks extensively about how he helped mold her amazing performance as Chita’s first replacement. He might have already served his time with Spider Woman.

According to Dylis Croman, who was JLo’s dance double, filming has wrapped today.

Dylis clearly states she was her dance STAND IN not double. A dance stand in rehearses with the ensemble to save time while the lead rehearses separately with the choreographer and dance assistant. Huge difference from being a dance double.

That was a quick shoot for a movie-musical! (If the entire production has indeed wrapped, and not just the portions that involved Dylis)

Just got word that principal photography on the dance numbers has wrapped and filming begins on Monday for the rest of the film, including other musical numbers.

Just curious, are they filming on a stage sound in NYC?

The film is being shot on several sound stages at 10 Basin Studios in New Jersey.

Quite a number of recognizable Broadway chorus boys were involved in the dance numbers, including Max Clayton, per social media.

Oooo. On which social media platform? Was scrolling through Max Clayton’s instagram and could not find anything.

Various folks were posting images to their IG stories while on set so I don’t think anything remains up.

Going by what she said on Kelly Ripa ( well the story that appeared on Facebook ) this has finished filming all together. She’s moving in to her tour. That was really quick, no release date set.

Its also possible that her scenes were filmed first. There is a lot of material her character is not in.

Lopez wrapped the first week in May (days after the dance numbers concluded filming). She filmed her non-dancing sections in her last days. The non-Lopez portions of the film are currently filming and the film has not wrapped. The production scheduled all her sections to be done first and release her before moving on to the rest of the film. Any reshoots/pickups that might be needed will be done before the film wraps completely or in post production, pending her schedule. She’s an EP on the film so she does have the clout to coordinate the filming schedule to accommodate her.

How nice of Lopez to film all hers scenes before anyone else to accommodate herself. This is one of my all time favorite musicals and I am dreading what might happen to it.

It’s for production logistics. You call yourself a fan so you are aware her character appears in musical numbers. It’s cost effective to film all these numbers first so everyone involved with these sections, like dancers, background players, etc can be released instead of paying them to wait around for weeks. This allows the director to move on and focus on the non-musical sections which take up the majority of the film.

Yes I understood the logistics prior to posting. And if you feel this was in no way to accommodate her schedule that is your prerogative as well.

Kind of crazy that we just found out about this in December and it's already almost in the can.

What are you talking about? This is how all movies are made. They are filmed in a way that concentrates the use of actors so they can film their scenes in the least amount of time possible. It completely makes sense to film the musical numbers first - it has nothing to do with Lopez being demanding

I learned when I was a kid that movies are rarely filmed in chronological order, and that they frequently film to accommodate schedules or to film scenes where many characters are required at certain points, so they can manage down the time that actors are required on set, presumably in an effort to manage costs and peoples' availability.. There is zero unusual about her filming all of the scenes contiguously.
