I'm trying to think of all the Jewish broadway stars and have so far come up with: Idina Menzel, Shoshana Bean, and Harvey Fierstein, Marissa Janet Winokur. I'm having a brain toot though and can't think of any others.
Anyone want to add onto this list??
Hah...I think it would be easier to make a list of NON-Jewish Broadway performers.
Akiva
This would be the longest list. First I think of Mrs. Brolin and Molly Picon, then I think of Zero Mostel and ... I think perhaps Link got that right, name who isn't.
If i remember right Adam Pascal is jewish
Barbra Streisand, Joel Grey, Jerry Orbach, Zero Mostel, Marc Kudisch, Mandy Patinkin, Chip Zien, Carol Lawrence, Jenna Leigh Green...

Carol Lawrence is like a Christian or a Jew for Jesus. Something like that.
Just curious---what difference does it make?
Theodore Bikel, Lauren Bacall, Sarah Jessica Parker...
Actually, Jenna is not.
And to answer "what's the difference", there isn't any. But if people are answering they should try and be accurate.

Does it really matter what a persons religious beliefs are?
I'm pretty sure Jenna is Jewish. Her real last name is Greenberg.

is stephanie j block jewish?
Douglas Sills is Jewish. So is David Josefsberg. Josh Young (Tony on International WSS tour) is as well.
SJB is not.
Jenna isn't either, Elphaba3. Her dad's dad was (hence the Jewish last name) but his mom was Catholic. Her mom was raised Christian and so was she. I know this because she took off personal time from the tour around the Jewish High Holidays so I assumed so as well. She set me straight when I wished her an easy fast!

I have no idea why it would matter, But I always get a laugh when Adam Sandler sings a new version of his "Hannukkah Song" (i.e. OJ Simpson, NOT A JEW!)
Tovah Feldschuh too... (Golda's Balcony)... and Billy Crystal though I wouldn't know if he'd be considered a "Broadway Star."
jimmirae, i wish he would make a broadway version of the song but i know he probably never would. it would still be quite hillarious.
Dottie and Yankee, nothing wrong with honest curiosity.
why is it whenever someone makes a thread of who is what some people just over react sooo much.
dude no one is saying it matters or they care, they are just curious.
Just like i'd be curious as to any arab broadway people. Course thats because i only know of one. Or people from Ohio.
Some people are just curious.

Ethel the Merman is not Jewish. She is Episcopalian I believe. I know she used to sing in her church choir.
Also, almost every composer/lyricist/book writer is Jewish. Woo!

Ethel Merman isn't Jewish. I was watching "Theater Talk" the other night and Arthur Laurents said Merman would get upset when people thought she was Jewish.
Judy Kaye is Jewish.

No one is overreacting! All I said is "Just curious---what difference does it make?" because I was curious as well. Geez.
