Library of Congress Sets Jonathan Larson Tribute Concert for October (Corrected) August 18, 2006 – The Library of Congress' concert series for the fall includes one star-studded event that theater lovers should mark on their calendars. On Monday, October 23, Anthony Rapp and Gwen Stewart, who starred in the original production of Jonathan Larson's Rent, will lead a cast including Jeremy Kushnier (The Rhythm Club, Footloose), Michael McElroy (Big River), Natascia Diaz (Seussical, The Capeman) and Randy Graff (Fiddler on the Roof, A Class Act) in songs by Larson and by composers who received grants from the foundation set up in his memory upon his death just before the Broadway opening of Rent. The concert is a likely sell out just about as soon as the free tickets go on sale. Explanation? The free tickets are distributed through TicketMaster and carry a $2.75 service charge plus additional charges for phone orders and handling. The tickets for this event become available on the morning of September 13 at TicketMaster outlets, online at TicketMaster's website, or by phone at 301-808-6900 or 410-752-1200. Out of area residence may use 800-551-7328. Before the concert there will be a presentation by the Library's Mark Horowitz in the Whitehall Pavilion. (Note that the list of participants is slightly different than that reported earlier today. A correction was received at noon on the August 18 and we have made the appropriate corrections.)

That's amazing. It would probably be better though if they charged for the tickets to raise money for the Jonathan Larson Foundation or something else RENT usually raises money for... lol. Also interesting that they didn't mention that Jeremy Kushnier was in RENT, considering it's a JL tribute. Hmh. Wish I could go.
Measure your life in love, RENTheads, and keep it always in your heart.

Well, they didn't mention that Michael McElroy was also in Rent. I think they probably realized that anyone who would be interested would know that. :)
It's in DC because the Library of Congress is in DC and that's what this entire event is about. They aren't having a tribute concert just for the hell of it, they're doing it specifically because of this induction.
RentingFAME, I would imagine that it's free because it's put on by the Library of Congress and that's maintained by the government, so technically your tax dollars have already covered the costs. Kind of the same reason that there's no admission charge at the Smithsonian.

Wanting life but never

ugg.. a whole night of jonathon larson music <33 if only I could get to DC :)
and ANTHONY. ah.
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
Im excited that I can finally attend a tribute to Jonathan Larson. Getting to NY is so much harder when you work fulltime AND go to school. Thanks Library of Congress!
I got tickets today. Anyone else going?

Glad to see others are going! Hoping to run into some of you. I bought my ticket shortly after 10 am (while shielding my computer screen from my colleagues view) and got row Q on the left side. Tickets must have been sold before the on sale time for some people.

If anyone knows of any extra tickets, please, please, please email me or call.... guitar.and.video.games@hotmail.com or (717) 645-4626 Thanks soooooooo much! I'm a huge RENThead and don't know what I'll do if I can't figure out a way to get to this concert! ~Nicole
