It was a micro aggression!
Oh no, this sucks.
I finally saw Hell's Kitchen a few weeks ago, and while I thought the show was okay, I was absolutely blown away by Kecia Lewis. I couldn't believe how much she was giving to a show that was not rising to the level of depth and heart she was giving on that stage, and so long into her run.
But this makes me feel icky about her.
And to be clear, if I were Jeannette, I would not post this video on the day Kecia leaves either. I'd probably wait until the show itself closed. Or even post it on opening, wishing the team the best. It's defintely poor timing on her part....but I would never say anything if I were Kecia.
Bayardelle was the best sung Celie in Color Purple I've ever heard.
When I saw her in the Chicago company, her voice literally make me stop breathing for a second.
That said... Kecia has been in this biz for how long and she's still this thin-skinned?
Bayardelle is 10x more talented than Lewis. Lewis seems super insecure per usual.
Bayardelle was also booked (and not as old as Lewis) when Lewis did HK.
I’m sure Bayardelle would’ve won the Tony too. It was the role - and that particular years lower competition .
Bayardelle is fantastic

The way she sings "aliiiive in me" has lived rent free in my head for years:
Jeannette was stunning in Girl From The North Country. Those vocals + Bob Dylan were one of my fav theatre experiences in 20 years.
I left Facebook a year ago. What exactly was Jeanette's post? Can someone post a link to it?

It was just her singing the song and acknowledging that she workshopped the role.
Indeed, the better response would’ve been to congratulate Jeannette on booking the job and then glance over at your Tony with gratitude.

I didn’t even realize that Kecia Lewis had left the show. Did they have creatives and producers giving farewell speeches at her final curtain call? I can’t seem to find any footage.

Jeanette's Pressing On is absolutely astounding. I don't listen to it often because I start crying uncontrollably and it leaves me breathless every time.

A-men. Lewis comes off as seriously unhinged, and thats her prerogative, but the way the industry rallies around her delusion is peak modern nonsense. Good for Bayardelle for standing up to it.
and if you havent heard Bayardelle sing the Season of Love solo in the umpteenth national tour of rent, do yourelf a favor.
