Patti Lupone never said anything racist and I hope to see an apology from Kecia Lewis. Kecia is #overrrr.

You are the only one pretending, evidently just to stir things up. Grow up.

Period. She posted on her closing performance and I can understand how that might feel weird because they are peers. What doesn’t surprise me is the amount of anti-blackness and audacity that pounces out of the vulture’s mouths on this board.

Some of you could not wait to discredit this Black woman for her accomplishments. It’s hilarious at this point and so expected. You forget moments like this for a Kecia in this industry come few and far between. Her feelings are valid. Her approach may not be the classiest. But you all trying to erase her greatness completely = typical racism. And you’ll come up with 525,600 reasons why it’s not.

Oh please. Her cast mates posted congratulations on her closing day. So is that wrong? They were all congratulatory posts on her run and some people just want to twist it around.

There is no "anti-blackness" here. (And for the record, I am black). It is all about Ms. Lewis' attitude, not her color.  Again, stop trying to make it something it isn't. It's getting really tired.

Its just like trump yesterday or will Smith, they just had to make it about themself when they could have chosen to simply wait.the only thing about race is Patty's fans responses. I wasn't talking about patty. I dont want to hear period like you all are so sure you're right, the timing was in extremely poor taste, period

I think the only thing race specific about this is that the woman who is offended is, in fact, Black. She is also accountable for her behavior as it impacts other people - there’s not a free pass to be nasty like she has opted to be on multiple occasions based on our skin color and culture.

This isn’t Rosa Parks standing up to the white man. This is a woman that’s deeply insecure that takes to the media (social or otherwise) to tear people down she has beef with. Someone could forget to write her a birthday card and she’d take out a spread in the NY Times - half of the vaguely named or new folks on here will throw around critical terms at people who take issue with it.

No, it’s not racist or MAGA to suggest Kecia Lewis gets a grip. It’s a huge distraction from the otherwise sinking of our nation to try turning criticism of childish, immature behavior into a race-based conversation. All a distraction. Why isn’t YankeeDani a part of this convo?

You can be Black and anti-Black, my dear. Yikes if you thought that was a clap-back. Ms. Lewis was on Broadway stages well before many of you were born. She’s entitled to feel how she feels about the ending of her long Broadway run. A milestone in her career.

You obvious don’t understand optics. It is not customary or respectful to post an audition tape or cover of a role on the closing of a peers run. It’s kinda weird. Again Kecia didn’t have to handle it publicly, though the video was public. She’s entitled to her feelings even if this thread tries to paint her as a monster.

Of course her cast members posted. But Jeanette wasn’t in the cast…

She is entitled to her feelings, but not entitled to this behavior. It will cost her eventually, if it hasn’t already. Can’t pay bills with a trophy, so good luck to her.

The fact that so many people have provided rational and well-articulated responses to the crazy race-card playing of resident troll Ensemble&%$@# (of course) and this jg person gives me hope for humanity.

As if my responses aren’t well articulated. Just because I call out your trash doesn’t mean I’m less eloquent, but go off. Ms. Lewis has had a fabulous career and will continue with one. Which is why she’s also a lead on a TV show currently.

I’m not intimidated by the white mob mentality on these threads. So we can do this all day. And a race-card can only be played when a system creates a racist trail. Which most of you contribute to daily.

Is this the person who was damning people in salt or whatever in the previous Kecia thread?

If Kecia was so offended, why didn't she reach out to Jeanette to tell her?

Oh, yeah...that wouldn't have gotten the all-important online attention.  Not to mention showing some integrity.

Exactly. And there is a block feature that she could have used if she was that upset.

Can you read? I’ve said multiple times Kecia could’ve handled this a classier way, but her feelings are valid. There I said it again.

Patti did that to herself lol. The 'story" would've gone away on its own if not for her interview but just like Kecia she's painfully insecure and always needs the last word.

On the one hand, this is true. Patti should have known better and dropped the issue. On the other hand, if you made a relatively minor request and sent flowers as a thank you, and then you were called a racist bully in response...can you honestly say that would bring out your best tendencies and behavior?

I think we as a culture need more nuance than “your feelings are valid.” Sometimes, it is better and more mature to acknowledge one’s emotional response to something can be disproportionate, unfair, or just irrational. It’s true of all of us.

I actually think Kecia Lewis is a drama queen.  When Lupone asked for the volume to be lowered, she was not being racist.  I have heard of Lupone being accused of a lit of things, but never racism.

While watching dramas, I have heard music from adjoining theatres in the past, and they were from not musicals that blared like HK.  I actually wore ear plugs during part of Act 2 to muffle the volume a little, since it had given me a headache.  I can imagine that that would be distracing for an actor, particularly in the case of the Shubert  / Booth, where the stages essentially back each other,

I think she has gotten a little full of herself.

Patti gave that interview months before it was published when the feud was still hot.

I think both of them were/are being drama queens. I think they they were/are respectively wrong. But Patti's problems are all about ego and entitlement (not white privelege; diva privilege, perhaps), not racism. Nor do I think anyone here criticizing Kecia is being racist. But that a couple of posters would lob attacks was pretty predictable. None of it is worth anyone getting seriously upset about (I don't think most people are).

Patti’s  recent Andy Cohen interview was also months after the phony outrage that occurred around Tony time. I do hope someday she addresses it. Keicia  Lewis is a difficult person.  And all those people that wrote that open letter should really be embarrassed. In my opinion this phony clutch your pearls outrage is the mindset that helped Trump win the election.  And I’m referring more to the open letter.

Jeannette Bayardelle’s response was simple, classy and effective. Lewis can kiss goodbye whatever good will came her way in the wake of the LuPone fallout.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body
