"The last revival of Follies played the Belasco and flopped."
It flopped because it was produced by Roundabout which throws any old crap up on stage and calls it "good enough". There was very little thought (or money) put into that production. I think they only produced it because they were trying to capitalize off the success of the Papermill production.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
Arghghghghgh...so pissed that I will probably miss this? Unless Performance can start by August 1st, lol.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Why do most people seem to quote that Linda Lavin isn't transferring but Jan Maxwell is. The article says " Linda Lavin and Jan Maxwell have already been announced for other engagements."
I so hope I get to see this! It is very exciting. Sorry to threadjack, but was it announced that Porgy and Bess was transferring? If so then I really need to get down to New York!
ljay889....can people rehearse in a new show and perform at night?
I mean, can anyone predict when this show would start performances? (If it's between August 1st-7th it's possible I could see it).

All this being said, they need to remove the intermission or put it somewhere SIGNIFICANTLY earlier. Too little happened during the second act and too much happened during the first.
Good for them! The transfer is gonna be quick so I have a feeling it will be as close as possible to the DC version. Maxwell will probably work out her conflict, if Lavin can't, no big deal, they can easily find someone closer to type with less ego. If Ballard is still working, she would add a lot. I don't think Regine is going to be replaced either, she is very well liked and endeared by the company. Too bad about the set though.

I believe almost every professional production that's used an intermission has put it there, so I can't imagine that's going to change now. If it's moved back much further the second act is going to be significantly longer than the first.
$7 Million for this & $ 70 million for Spiderman? More money does obviously not mean better.
While it will not touch the original, the cast alone proves this will be better than the last revival. 41 in the cast WOW. I wonder how many will be in the pit?
This is great news, though I'm still glad I made the trek out to DC to catch it. If mostly because the stage door situation was a lot less annoying that it probably would be in NYC.
I am also hoping a cast album comes out of this (especially since the guys over at PS Classics have been stated as wanting to do a Follies album. Speaking of which, is the Papermill Cast album still in print?).
