But I've always though of Lea as a little chemistry machine with both her male and female co-stars. The only person I thought she didn't get all sparkly with was Cory on Glee.
Also heavy agree with past criticisms on how ugly this show is to look at. I've seen Regional shows with better production values. Wtf happened there? Eww."
Ugh, these are all thrilling.

YAWIAM is fantastic!! She's really great at comedy.

all the clips are glorious, what a performance but the best one is the finale number, acting, and singing her ass off.

It blows my mind that people get away with these. And ever since Lea joined its like there's been footage from every performance. Has the production stopped caring? If anything, the leaked videos are only driving people's interest up more. Agreed that they are all thrilling and how amazing to have such high quality ones. I hope someone saves them so years from now so people can marvel at her then!

And that's exactly why they are still up. They were trying to hide the other one from all media and videos due to her not being an actual singer. What a vast difference in approach. This is just positive for all involved.

I do agree that they're letting the bootlegs stay up because it's free promotion but I do think they'll remove the other numbers except for DROMP eventually. They don't want to make the viewer feel they've seen the entire show.
But having seen all these just makes me want to see her live even more. So who knows?

the Tony would have been hers 100% no doubt if they were to open with Lea in the first place

The most interesting part, for me, has been reading the comments on the videos of Lea from the show. Whether it was on Fallon, the first clips of her opening night on twitter, instagram, YouTube, etc.
There's always a ton of people saying that this is making them fans of her either for the first time OR they are fans of hers AGAIN. Overall, just a huge public admiration win for her. Not just in this production, but for her future.
I wish so badly to back in time and find a way to get this to be how the show opened. But, as some have said, part of what makes this an "event" is the comparison between her and Beanie. Would we be saying how brilliant she in the role had we not seen someone else completely flop? Probably. But would it have been as publicly rewarding and covered? Not a chance.

Speaking of comments, it baffles me that some Julie supporters keep commenting on Lea's videos to say Julie is better (I've seen it under IATGS, DROMP and People)
I am glad that Julie got the break she got - she IS talented and I'm sure big things will happen to her in the future. But why the constant undermining of Lea from those who support her? Will never understand. Lea is helping to keep the show running which benefits Julie and everyone else.

The impression that I get, especially from the little flame wars that were on Twitter after the NYT review, some Julie girls seem to be miffed that Lea is getting all this attention while Julie is just as good (or better) than her. It's...weird.

Oh, that was when a girl got mad a critic called Funny Girl the "Lea Michele Show" because it was disrespectful to everyone else.
It's all so petty and unnecessary.

Both are hysterical - YAWIAM is my preference because Ramin...better than the movie - both are wonderful comics, and the physical comedy is top notch.

Having seen videos of both of them and a full audio of Julie (sadly, not in person) AND having been a big Julie supporter, Lea owns the character - she is a star. I just don't get that same energy from Julie, however, great her performance is. She is acting. Lea is being. Big difference in the end.

Exactly, I've see Beanie (UGH) and Julie (wonderful performance) but after seeing all these clips of Lea - Lea Michele is in a whole other league and far superior vocally and acting wise. I would't say Julie is better at all. Can't wait to see her live next Friday!!!

Having just watched His Love Makes Me Beautiful, I realized where the idea of the curtain call came from. Fanny doesn't show up coming through the silver whatever that is during this number. So, they repeated it with the curtain call.

After reading all the raves and watching the clips it got me to thinking about another project that Lea's name kept popping up in with the conversation about casting and the most vocal posts in regards to that were to "Keep her as far away from it as possible!!" The role in question .... Elphaba in the film version of WICKED. I am curious if people might now think that might not have been a bad choice after all. Too late to make any difference now but doesn't hurt to think about "what it could have been".

Forgotten it or rejoicing in what might be not only the comeback of the century but also a beautiful reflection of her love's redemption?
Not touching any of that...

The Wrap's review is.. weird.
He doesn't really talk about why Lea doesn't bring the laughs except to say she's too... pretty? And he kind of dismisses her impact on Act 2.
"Some of the problem is her too glamorous appearance. When Streisand starred in “Funny Girl,” she didn’t look like your typical leading lady. Which is what the role required. Ditto Beanie Feldstein, who was equally playing against type when this revival opened in April.
When Michele is told that her Fanny doesn’t belong in the chorus line with all the other tall and beautiful girls, it’s a problem too easily solved. Get the girl a higher pair of heels."
Interestingly, he had a more favorable review of Beanie and defended her singing capability. Maybe he just has a different expectation of Funny Girl.
The show will perform on Good Morning America this Friday.
Seriously. Lea is on another level. Wow. This needs a cast recording. I’m not one to listen to cast albums but I can definitely find myself putting this one on a loop. She truly holds her own with the songs.

He is a biased hack who doesn't matter so it doesn't matter for the production.
