*FROM ROB'S BLOG*
The latest round of Legally Blonde readings take place today and tomorrow in New York City as the show continues to develop. For all those curious out there as to the current casting for this evolving incarnation, here's where it's at:
Laura Bell Bundy (Elle Woods), Scott Bakula (Professor Callahan), Rachel Dratch (Paulette), Christian Borle (Emmett), Richard Blake (Warner), Kate Shindle (Vivien), Nikki Snelson (Brook Wyndam), Leslie Kritzer (Serena), Farah Alvin (Margot), Pearl Sun (Pilar), Andy Karl (Kyle), Aaron Lohr, Kate Wetherhead, Donna Vivino, Debra Wiseman, Kevin Pariseau, Rashad Naylor, Julie Garnye, Eisa Davis, T.J. Maddox, Caesar Samayoa.
Legally Blonde has music & lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin, with a book by Heather Hach. The director/choreography is Jerry Mitchell, and so far producers on the show include Kristin Caskey, Mike Isaacson, Hal Luftig, and Dori Berinstein.
The Quantum Leap geek inside of me REALLY wants Scott Bakula to get the role when it comes to Broadway.

Rachel! wooo!
But I wanna see Jennife Coolidge - she's GOD!
I'm very excited to see Rachel Dratch's name on this! And anyone who's seen Leslie Kritzer in "Trailer Park" knows she can pull of any comedic role effortlessly. Great casting choices so far.
Rachel!!! Dori!!!! Jerry!!! Yeay!
- yeah I'm a little too enthuastic
Does anyone know other works of Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin? I'm not familair with them at all. EDIT: I found out but now I have a new question...has anyone heard the score for Cam Jensen as they worked together on it.
O'keefe did BATBOY

Is Aaron Lohr just in the ensemble or what? Also, pardom my Legally Blonde lack of knowledge... but who is Kyle because Andy rocks and he deserves a kick ass part!
Was anyone invited to any of these readings and get to go?
*besides Rob, of course*
I'd like to hear a report of how this show is shaping up!
my friend is an ASM for this and he says its awesome. i really wish i could go see it.
the guy who has been reading for Warner is hott! look at this:
his pic!
Dre2387, I think Richard H. Blake (previously of Hairspray) is actually reading for Warner.
I'm excited to see Leslie Kritzer back on any stage. She is too amazing of a talent to disappear!
edit: I assumed it was Richard Black from HS who was in this as well, he just left a short while ago, presumably to do this?
Wow.... I'm surprised Blake is able to do this....
I THINK Wedding Singer rehearsals started this week (but I'm not positive), in which he has has a major role (Glenn Guglia)

I agree.
Wedding Singer rehearsals begin today if I'm not mistaken. And the Legally Blonde reading was around 11... maybe he ran straight to rehearsal after?
Is it possible for him to do both with Wedding Singer coming to Bdway next March, and Legally Blonde looking to a Dec 06' opening??

I have to say I am pleasantly surprised with how excited I am that this is actually going to happen. I can't wait to see how it all shapes out, and I am really rooting for it to be good.
Perfect casting, though I would like to see John Jeffrey Martin as Warner.
I have to say this and I do NOT want to start a war because I know he has some fans, but WHY IS RICHARD BLAKE PLAYING WARNER INSTEAD OF ANDY KARL? Alright, I feel much better now. I don't think the casting is all that remarkable all the way around. I don't even know who Niki Snelson is. Is this info supposed to even be posted on a blog, or what have you? Isn't it very hush hush?
well word of mouth so far is that it IS pretty good. I'm so excited for this, but I want to hear more about how the reading went. Maybe we'll hear more after the other reading tomorrow.

I'm sure it is. The source material is funny. I'm just saying that with the exception of Kate Shindle as Vivian, not much of the rest makes any bells and whistles of excitement go off for me.
i feel like this show is more a vehicle for up and coming young talent and less for big names... the "Legally Blonde" name alone will have appeal and bring audiences in and if the show is done right, they'll keep coming b/c of good word of mouth and have a nice long run

Can't anyone see Jen Simard playing Elle and Julia Murney playing Paulette? Am I crazy?
I think Jen Simard would be a great Elle!
