Wasn't there a mention of "big Marquee names."? I'd say, the Dream Cast from the 10th Anniversary Concert in London...Colm, Philip, Lea Salonga, Ruthie, Michael Ball, etc.
"I love acting. It is so much more real than life." Oscar Wilde "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." Aldous Huxley
BAll has sung Valjean before (at least in concert). Right now on PBS they are showing this series about Windsor Castle and they had the cast of Les Miz perform for the French leadership guests. Michael Ball was Valjean and sounded great on what they played of it. I'd love to see Patti LuPone cameo back into her Fantine role. That would be an easy 6 month gig for her. Though Alice Ripley would be stunning as well. As much as I appreciate Raul Esparza, this is not the show for him. I'm sure it would be interesting, but where would he growl? :)
How about Brian D'Arcy James for Enjorlas? Gavin Creel for Marius Laura Benanti as Cosette (or Kelli O'Hara) I like the whole Harvey/Lea thing for the Thenardiers. i think that would be a stitch. Since I've seen the show 3 times, I don't really feel the need to see this 6-mo special. But I hope they cast it well.
Isn't Colm Wilkinson a bit old for Valjean now? He's in his early 60's now. I know by show's end Valjean is in his 70's, but I don't think Wilkinson could convincingly pull off the "young" Valjean in the early parts of the show.
Now what would you say if today I started over?
Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover
And I'll pretend like everything is already alright
And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight
Forgive me, I don't know too much about Les Mis, but if someone could give me a quick rundown of the age ranges of the main characters, it might make my choices a bit easier.
"I have this mental image of Patti barreling down the street and pushing tourists out of her way." -colleen_lee
Rob Evan as Valjean Ron Bohmer as Javert Ruthie Henshall as Fantine Janine LaManna as Eponine Katie Clarke as Cosette John Lithgow or Greg Jbara as Thenardier Vicki Clark as Mdme T. Adam Brazier as either Maruis or Enjolras
Janine LaMama is fab, but she would be the oldest Eponine of all time. She's probably old enough to be Katie Clark's mother and the characters are the same age.
Alice Ripley was hands-down the best Fantine I've ever seen, but I highly doubt she'd be doing this production as she is taking an extended break from theatre. I would love to see Emily Skinner as Fantine, and I love the Judy Kuhn idea. Julia Murney would be fabulous, too.
