I've never heard so much buzz about ANY show so early in its run from non theater people. I'm in Boston, and in my "circles" I'm definitely the most In-the-know and this us so beyond my reach. HECK, , some kid running g for office used it in her campaign slogan! (NOT a drama kid). Nuts and cool.
dramamama, I'm in Boston too, and the same thing is happening in my circles. Everyone is talking about it, from teens to younger adults to middle aged and elderly adults!

Yes, Kad, I saw it.
The recording was on EW's Must List this week.
And the track "Alexander Hamilton" was one of their 14 Hot Tracks for Fall.
Haven't seen the press release yet, but Barnes & Noble event info is on bn.com:

So EW only listened to the first track?
"Satisfied" should have been the track EW listed. Or at the very least "The Room Where It Happens."
No they listened to the whole thing.
I was going to link it but it's not on the site yet. It's only in the print edition.
Here's what they say:
13) "Alexander Hamilton"
Hamilton Cast Recording
Tickets to Lin-Manuel Miranda's hip-hop musical are scarcer than gold pandas - but this opener from the new cast recording makes the Founding Father come alive with a bang.
The list also included tracks from Kurt Vile, CHVRCHES, Lana Del Ray, Darlene Love, and Jay Rock among others.
I would also have chosen Room.
I'm finding myself stuck listening to songs in Act 1. What are some of the highlights from Act 2? (except The Room Where it Happens).

Well, if you haven't seen the show and plan to in the near future I would wait to listen to most of act 2 if I were you. Otherwise....
well I tried answering this and I realized I was about to type almost all of them.
I love the whole freaking thing.

Which is stupid, but I'm owning my stupidity. And it was during that song when I thought, "Well, that's it. I'm sold. How lucky I am to be alive right now."

I know exactly what you mean. To me the remarkable thing about the way this particular role is written and his performance is the fact that he plays the "villain" yet somehow I feel so sorry for him at the end more than anything. Like am I supposed to leave a musical about Alexander Hamilton heartbroken for Burr? Probably not but I do.

I think that's the genius of this masterpiece. You're supposed to empathize with the characters and all their contradictions. The way a functioning government might look in some fantasy dream world.

I agree. I am loving listening to "Helpless" and "Satisfied". I am not seeing this until January, and could not resist in totally immersing myself in this recording. Makes me want to see the show even more.

I don't know what it says about me but I'm obsessed with "Say no to this"

Act II? I'm partial to BURN.
Act II highlights for me are Room, Burn, and One Last Time.
One Last Time is such a great song.
Also: Take a Break
I am loving the whole of Act I but especially "Schuyler Sisters" and King George's songs. Haven't listened to too much of Act II yet.

The unedited explicit versions of the edited songs that streamed on NPR pack an even bigger punch, especially in "Washington On Your Side."
I thought I would like this but after 17 minutes I'm bored. Does it get better?
If you didn't like the first 17 minutes (up to the end of "Schuyler Sisters" then the score isn't for you I guess! Perhaps seeing it live would do it more for you.

The cast recording is available for free as part of Amazon Prime Music as well ... at least right now it is.
