^ Yes, I'm pretty sure they paid for all those. Some additional references were cut for cost.
So there's more that got cut from the recording than just that one scene like people are saying?
No- references were cut from the show entirely.

Yeah, what Kad said is what I meant. Cut from the show.

This is a change, not a cut: During the Public run, in My Shot, Anthony Ramos sang something like, "This s--t gonna make my people wanna rise up." (Can't remember it exactly.) I liked it because he sang it four or five times, getting louder each time. I found it really exciting. Apparently that was a sample from something, and when the production tracked down the rights, about 17 people and six companies were claiming it. So it was too complicated to sort out, and Lin rewrote that part, to what you hear on the CD, something like, "When you're living on your knees...tell your brother that he has to rise up...tell your sister...."

This article, previously posted in the thread, addresses some of the references cut between The Public and the Richard Rodgers:
http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2015/09/24/hamilton_s_hip_hop_references_all_the_rap_and_r_b_allusions_in_lin_manuel.html
Of note, from the article, a quote from LL Cool J's "I Need Love" originally opened "Say No to This" but it was removed before Broadway due to clearance issues. But since this article was published, LL Cool J tweeted to the Hamilton account "reach out to me, let's get this fixed"

Oh, I didn't realize LL Cool J had reached out. Too late, LL. Lin won't change it back, he said it was getting a laugh where he didn't want one.
macnyc, I hadn't heard that was the reason for that change! Thanks for sharing that.

"Agreed! Right now, I'm completely obsessed with "Wait for It," which I enjoyed a lot when seeing the show but didn't strike me as a standout at the time. But listening again on the recording, I'm blown away by how well constructed the song is and how essential it is to developig Burr's character and advancing the themes of the narrative."
I totally agree with this! I was actually just in the car running a work errand and, of course, listening to Hamilton. I had been listening all week but I hadn't really been able to fully listen to Wait for It and now I'm obsessed. You are right, it plays a huge role in advancing the narrative and showing us what motivates Burr and what his struggles are. I actually identified so much with Burr moreso than Hamilton and Leslie Odom, Jr. is doing spectacular, beautiful work in this role. I find this song to be very, very moving.
I'm seeing Ham next Saturday 10/3 but the download came from itunes today. Should I listen to it first? I've only heard the snippets of just a few songs.
It's a judgment call, but if I were you, I would wait for the performance to experience the music for the first time. You're so lucky you can then go home and listen to it all again! Oct. 3 will be here before you know it.

Agreed. If you can stand to wait until then it would make your first viewing/listen a lot more amazing. Then you can listen again on the way home.

Steve. At least skip King George's numbers and maybe the last five songs
Gee Kids! Thanks...what to do? Either way, I am very much looking forward to this "experience" for lack of a better term.

I'm so glad to see other people finally getting so excited about Wait for It! This was the song at the Public where I totally fell in stage love with Leslie Odom Jr. and the show in general. It moved me so much that when I finally got to go back to see the show on Broadway I started crying as soon as I heard the music for it. I couldn't understand why no one was really talking about it! The Room Where It Happens is great and all, but to me Wait for It is where he really establishes his character, and it's such a subtle, beautiful performance. Plus those lyrics... Glad to hear I'm not the only one who ADORES it.
I could always tell Miranda was influenced by the Valjean/Javert relationship, but it's even more apparent listening to this recording. There's an explicit reference, which he tweeted today (or more accurately, responded to the tweets of those who found it), but I won't spoil it for those of you who want to try to find it on your own. (Despite having the Les Mis OBCR nearly memorized I didn't catch it, and he said Schoenburg didn't catch it. It's extremely subtle but brilliant.)
Could you link the tweet?
I'm really curious

This was the song at the Public where I totally fell in stage love with Leslie Odom Jr. and the show in general.
I was in a real "show me"/arms crossed mood with Odom because I sooooooo hated his character on SMASH that I obviously transferred those feelings to him as an actor. Which is stupid, but I'm owning my stupidity. And it was during that song when I thought, "Well, that's it. I'm sold. How lucky I am to be alive right now."
It is so satisfying to see the cast recording climbing the charts on iTunes. It was the #6 album this morning.

It's #43 in the UK iTunes album chart and #1 in the UK 'soundtrack' chart - not bad considering there's no advertising, no show to go and see in London etc.
Thanx again for the advice I'm going to wait until I see it like most of you recommend . oh goody goody...
With it so close, I think you made a great decision! Hope you love it!

Is it common for Rolling Stone to review cast albums?

I don't think, but I think because of how "in" Hamilton is right now that I why the covered it. Plus, it's a rave. I love how the writer singled out "Satisfied".
