Dramamama, I feel that I need to say this -
After many years of reading your posts on this site, and becoming familiar with how you typically express your thoughts, it absolutely delighted me and made me laugh out loud to see you use that phrase. Thank you for that. I, too, am gagged.

The thing that struck me about Tick… Tick… BOOM! was the imagination and creativity of Miranda’s direction, even though filming was complicated by Covid. The ‘Sunday’ sequence was incredibly elaborate to film at all, and then it worked perfectly. Miranda proved that he’s a terrific director who can bring out the best in someone else’s work.
So even though I assume the budget for Octet will be lean, I don’t think Miranda will confine the action to a room. Many of the songs can be opened up. And then there’s another factor: It’s been a few years since the stage musical opened. I would be surprised if Dave Malloy hasn’t written another song or two for the film, if for no other reason than to address recent online developments.
While I still wonder how Octet will work as a film, it’s a bit of a freebie. The budget will be low. It’s clearly a passion project. Malloy and Miranda are really talented and the subject matter remains extremely relevant. The cast is stacked to an almost comical level.
Maybe it still won’t work. But I love that Miranda is trying this and working with Malloy and getting this absurd cast together.

The worst thing about this announcement is how many people are going to misspell a cappella.

Rave Chris Jones/Chicago Tribune review for the current Chicago production for those needing an immediate Octet fix.

I love the collective ignoring of the clearly unwell individual in this thread.
Anyway, as someone who really isn't a fan of LMM's writing/music, I thoroughly enjoyed his take on tick, tick...BOOM! it was imaginative and fresh and garnered that film a whole heck of a lot more attention than it wouldve gotten otherwise. Would love for him to pivot more into behind-the-camera work as his music could do with a well-deserved break. TO ME.

I saw the production in Chicago last week and it's fantastic. I had never seen the show before and thought it was just stunning. Dave Malloy really is working on a different level then a lot of composers. If you are in the area between now and beginning head over to the Raven Theater and catch it. I know the show is sold out until May 22. I would not be surprised if this extended.

Saw it on Saturday, they did a great job. The actors playing Ed and Paula were the standouts for me. I believe I've seen all of the productions of this except for the Toronto one. The original at Signature, Berkeley, Hudson Valley, DC, and now this one in Chicago.

So according to IMDb Octet has wrapped filming and is currently in post production…anybody think we’ll get it release this year or next?

I think at the earliest, it’ll probably have its world premiere at Sundance.

Octet had a 22 day shoot and wrapped on 12 June.

Makes sense, they don’t really have a studio acquisition behind it so yeah…if anything though I hope we get a “Fugue State teaser trailer”
