I wonder if she was drunk?  We might not have to wait long.  Someone mentioned she is on Andy Cohen next week.

Patti is obviously in the wrong here and should at least publicly apologize and ideally do some actionable change. That said I can’t help but feel like the racial aspect to this is less relevant than some make it out to be. I can’t help but feel like Patti would make the same comments regardless of race. Like I could totally see her saying it about someone like Idina whose broadway credits are significantly fewer than hers. Not that that excuses it but still. And even if she thought these things, why she thought saying it to a reporter was a good idea is wild

I feel like people keep missing the point that she could say something like this about a white actress and it’d be bad but race is absolutely a factor here. How does one call out a black actress for not having as many credits as she does and not realize that even for the best of the best the opportunities for black women are so unbelievably few compared to white women. To break through and have any longevity is an accomplishment for any actor but it’s just that much harder for women of color…which obviously make Audra McDonald’s career even more astonishing.

If she’s going to compared her career accomplishments to a black woman’s career, you cannot ignore the race factor.

Patti LuPone is 76. In 4 years she’s an 80 year old woman. She’s always been outspoken even early in her career. As it happens to most once they reach a certain age, the unfiltered commenting starts happening and LuPone is just going off on tangents just for the sake of it. Depending on her mood that day, it can go in any direction. She definitely was in one of her moods during that afternoon with the reporter for The New Yorker. George Clooney got her on a good day the day they filmed that Actors on Actors interview as she truly kept herself in check and kept her political references to a huge minimum.

So this has now descended into almost a race war - and yet race has actually NOTHING to do with any of this. Except that Patti happened to be white and Kecia/Audra happened to be Black. And yet, the toxic US culture can't focus on anything except this fact. Emotionally rallying behind Kecia/Audra as if they are a victims of racism and as if Patti is a white oppressor.

If you're wondering why Donald Trump won, look at this thread. Are there no progressive leaders that can teach you how to behave and get along? Every time this kind of crap happens I die a little inside because it's like a nail into the coffin of the progressive cause which appears to be anything but progressive.

10 years ago we would NOT have had race wars around Broadway performers for no sensible reason. This toxic US culture is new and the country has been changing for the worse. It's not the same country it was.

Oy vey!!! The "I don't see the racism" gaslighting again. Just because it's nuanced, does not mean it is not there.  Then again, denial and dismissal are key components in the perpetuation of white supremacy.

Of course?  Of course?  Chile, in other words, you don't really know. First of all, the New Yorker interview was done sometime this spring which means it could have taken place several weeks ago. Perhaps I should have asked had Patti seen the show prior to the interview. Second, the deadline for Tony voters to vote hasn't even arrived yet.   i would think that there would have been some press had she attended already.

....and one more thing, LuPone has admitted that she has not seen Hell's Kitchen.  If she as a Tony voter is required to sees every show, why did she not see Hell's Kitchen last season?

It is not particularly unusual for successful or privileged people to be blissfully unaware of, in denial about, and/or choose to ignore the very real struggles that others endure.  It is part of why their comments can seem particularly tone deaf.  Whether or not that is in play here with LuPone, I don't know.

Binau you should read the words of the above post slowly, several times. Think about them. Reflect. Ponder on how they may challenge your outdated worldview. Take a walk. If you then feel the need to give us another boomer Facebook dad post, sure go ahead. We'll all be here to roll our eyes.

Which post specifically? I think they need to read my posts. At this point, I will happily accept the title of boomer or whatever you want to call me if that means thinking race wars over nothing are ridiculous. All that has happened here is Patti called someone a bitch (who behaved terribly towards her) and that she lost a friend - it has NOTHING to do with race. None of it. This is not old fashioned this is the truth - your toxic culture is destroying itself and this is yet another example why. Time for people to stop feeling and start thinking. I literally don't understand how anyone can look at this thread and also what is happening on the wider internet around this issue and not recognise this. If you don't know how to behave and get along, you will all suffer the consequences mark my words. Enough is enough.

They deleted my post expressing my dislike for Greg Nobile minutes after I posted it.

But casting spells and anti semitism are ok. Got it.

Right I think she should have considered these things. And they absolutely are in play on the impact her comments have had for good reason but I don’t necessarily think they were in the intent.

Moderators pick and choose what to delete here. There's really no set of rules. Also assuming the moderators here are likely volunteers and aren't paid.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

For real. But it doesn't further the narrative that Patti is racist so it has been ignored.

There are lots of intersting things going on. Supposedly, you aren't allowed to hypthotisize on people's mental state, yet plenty of posts that do this to Patti are still up (and questions of whether she was drunk during the interview). There's no sense to to the moderating.

But frankly, I don't much care. There's actually a comment that this thread is now "unsafe." Exactly who is under some sort of threat from reading these silly posts? I've had more fun reading this thread than anything on this site in some time. Gonna go pop some popcorn than read whatever comes next.

It's wild that Patti Lupone finally is held accountable for her bad behavior (which has been enabled for far too long) and it gets likened to a race war!

White fragility is real.

Ah yes, she's being held accountable by... a BroadwayWorld thread?

This social media faux "activism" is tiring and went out of vogue in 2020.

Not here but I have seen plenty of people comment about it on other social media. As well as her feud with the long dead Hal Prince.
