Simard getting in but Hilty not, especially with six nominees in the category and the show getting so many noms in general, is interesting

These awards are reliably looney, every year.  Didn’t ANASTASIA sweep the nominations in 2017…?

That said, the Robyn Hurder omission isn’t shocking to me, especially given the way the performance categories are delineated, combining genders.

The completely SMASH shutout, however… Not great.

(But also IMO, not undeserved...)

Not nominating Jamie Lloyd for Sunset Blvd,  its lighting, Tom Francis & David Thaxton is embarrassing.  Yes, Smash was shut out.

These OCC nominations rarely indicate Tony noms.  Smash will be recognized come Tony noms in my opinion.

"I can't believe they didn't even acknowledge Robyn Hurder! "

Considering men and women are combined in award for best lead performer in a Broadway musical it is not so shocking. Look at the nominations and tell us who you would have replaced and added Ms. Hurder.

These were less "outer" there than I usually find these awards to be.   But I'm always stumped by how/when they clump b'way v off b'way as well as plays v musicals together.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I really hate how they choose to combine certain traditional categories and separate others. If you are going to separate Off Broadway acting, why do you combine Off Broadway directing and choreography?

While it is true that these aren't really a precursor for Tonys nods, I wouldn't be holding my breath for Smash to do much on Tony noms morning. Maybe 2-3 noms at best IMO.

Why the shade at Darren Criss? 🙄 He does a fantastic job playing the physical characteristics of a robot…and plays the role with a lot of emotion. I’m hoping he wins the Tony and I hope MHE takes best musical. You have to have a cold heart not to like this show

Then you're talking to somebody with a cold heart, cuz CoffeeBreak has had it out for the show since day one.

Wait.. was Dorian Gray not eligible or something?

not having gendered categories is crazy. All the brilliant performers who have even less chance of winning an award.

When the performance categories were gendered pre-pandemic, they were combined Broadway/off-Broadway — splitting the categories in this way allowed OCC to keep the same number of nominated performers and categories. (Which is why acting is split and the others are combined)

I'm quite happy that Drag The Musical has been so well received in the off-Broadway awards. There's a lot to like in the show and it's good to see so many different performers get recognized.

I'm also happy to see Real Women Have Curves breaking through. Such a sweet show.

He was- but again, since it's a non-gendered category of only 6 performers, it's hard to think of who would've been left off to include him, particularly in a year in which quite a few slots nominees were more or less locks.

Don't have "it out" for MHE.  The scenic is great (if not derivative) and there are a few enjoyable moments in a blander show masked by nice stagecraft.  Dez is giving a fantastic vocal.  The show itself, not production, felt after-school-special rom-com cheesy for us when the artifice is removed.

Jonathan is great in the show and working hard. Jordan, Francis and Groff are giving the best vocal performances of the season.  Hoping Jordan takes Best Actor.  He's doing the best leading male work on Broadway this season.
