She can do no wrong. And the song is a mind-blower.

Please take any bitchin' to any of the other threads.
This thread is just about how freakin' fabulous this performance and this song are.
AGREED
LOVE HER, i actually met her and she is sooooo sweet!! She hugged me and said she loved my shoes.
Megan Hilty singing Marc Shaiman/Scott Wittman tunes is the ONLY reason I continue to subject myself to this show.
Careful, LYLS. That was borderline bitchin'...
Megan really is a great talent. Her soprano is gorgeous.
Yeah it is "bitchin"
I'm sorry but when you have a brilliant performer like Megan not getting the respect she deserves particularly after three of the most incredible scenes I've ever seen ("Let's Be Bad," "Secondhand White Baby Grand," and now "...Moving the Line") it's a frustrating thing to have to watch
Yeah, and to hear that Spielberg really, really wanted to recast her is just infuriating. Hopefully she's given material that allows her to live up to her potential.
well if SMASH God Forbid gets canceled maybe we will see her back on Broadway... MY FAIR LADY anyone?
Does anyone know how to link a tumblr entry to here? There's a great audio recording of Megan, Kelli O'Hara, and Audra singing "At the Ballet".

Wait, why in God's name would Speilberg want to recast her? She's the saving grace of the show, in my opinion.
That we're supposed to believe McPhee is up to her level and giving her a run for her money is comical. There's no comparison ... none.
She is exclellent.Saw her at Bryant Park years ago doing "9 to 5" and she was great and funny.

Best original song on this show so far even if it sounds like a Kander and Ebb rip off. Hilty is beyond brilliant. Why the hell wasn't this released on Itunes?
It is on the Bombshell album coming out Tuesday. You can sneak preview the whole thing.

My favorite part of the episode! She is amazing, and I would love it if there was some way they could promote her upcoming album during the airtime for the next episode- even a commercial.
And as for Spielberg wanting to recast her...my God, the man's going the way of George Lucas in terms of brain power. :-p

But...other than Stephen Spielberg (whose musical theatre acumen brought us the scintillating vocal of Kate Capshaw barely getting through Anything Goes), most seem to agree that she's the best part of the show. I mean...maybe her character gets no respect...but I think Hilty has justifiably earned to respect of most viewers, as well as critics.
Love, love, love her. Somebody give her a great role on Broadway.
Also gotta say that this is really one of the greatest songs the Shaiman/Wittman team has come up with. A perfect story song with a beginning middle and end and lyrics that land so perfectly, you can't help but grin. So sad to see the show lionizing the new upstart songwriting team at the expense of any extra screen time for numbers by pros like these.
(if I hear that those new guys are writing the next RENT one more time, I'll scream.)

She rocks and is a doll to work with.
Too bad she has terrible taste in shoes.

Megan is the only reason I watch the show. And she has 100 times more like-ability than that dark haired Barbra Streisand wannabe on that other musical tv show.
One a side note, you see Deb Messing sitting on the piano bench. (I know why she's there). But as someone who plays the piano, I hate when people sit next to me. It's too confining when you're trying to reach the outer keys.
It really is a master class on how to perform a song.
"too bad she has terrible taste in shoes"
diva I gotta admit that's pretty funny lol
I saw the song much less as Kander and Ebb pastiche and more of just mid-1950s swinging pop, the sort you'd see littering every Sinatra album from his Capitol Records era.
So true. I'm usually multi-tasking when I watch TV; but when she sings, I stop everything.

Spielberg wanted to recast her? You're joking right? She is brilliant!
I absolutely ADORE Megan Hilty. I think her talent and charisma are unmatched, not to mention she is one of the most delightful and genuinely nice people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. I think it's a travesty the way she is treated on/by SMASH. In the promos that aired coming up to the premiere they literally did not show her. It wasn't like they gave her minimum time, they DIDN'T SHOW HER FACE. I mean I get it, Katharine McPhee is a name, but my God, in theory, they are supposed to be equals on that show. Ugh. Whatever, looks like SMASH may be getting the ol' heave ho which is almost a relief simply so Megan can take her talents somewhere they will be appreciated and not covered up so as not to outshine Kat McBland.
Sorry. Can you tell I'm a bit bitter? #TeamIvy
