Michael Lee Brown Dear Evan Hansen

From the fansen group on Facebook people really seem to love him. I read he was even more emotional than ben. Also, I know you didn't ask this, he didn't wear a wig.

Seems like they're alternate 2 shows at a time. Tuesday/Wed matinee; Wed evening/Thursday; Friday/Saturday matinee; Saturday evening/Sunday.

I saw Michael Lee Brown as Evan Hansen tonight. Having seen Ben three times and being a HUGE fan of Ben, I was trying to stay away from comparing the two since every actor has their own interpretation, and Michael's Evan definitely had a different vibe than Ben's. Yet, with that being said, Michael was fabulous tonight, considering this is only his second night as Evan! He was straining at some high notes and some of the comedic moments at the top of the show were a bit stiff, but apart from these very small details I have to say he nailed it! The small gestures, the stutters, the tones while he talked, he's Evan Hansen! His singing (apart from the very few straining high notes) were crisp clear and I loved it. His second act was much better than the first act IMO, much more filled with emotion.



I recorded a small audio clip (no video) of his waving through a window if anyone's curious how he sounds, I'll update the link once I get home.



He was a bit drowned out by the chorus towards the end of the number, not sure if it was the mic's problem?

And if anyone's really uncomfortable of me posting an audio clip of the show, please tell me and I'll delete it right away.

Ok, I won't post it :) I was just thinking maybe people would want to hear Michael's voice.

^you are aware many of the performers watch bootlegs themselves. Ben has even admitted to dosing so for his own fathers show. Whats the big deal???

Margo is 100% right about this. There's no intelligent or mature argument to be made on the other side, so stop trying. You sound like spoiled brats.

Margo, sometimes I agree with what you say and sometimes I don't but I think what people are reacting to here is your tone. You almost always respond to issues like this in an incredibly strident manner lecturing people in an unnecessarily harsh tone. People will never consider the merits or righteousness of what you have to say when they feel under attack. If behavioral change is your goal, your approach will likely not work. If that's not your goal, why even bother? And please don't insult people who are genuinely being bullied by playing the bullying card cause a few people on a theater message board told you to chill out.

Just because you watch bootlegged clips, it doesn't mean it's morally or legally right to do so. Likewise, just because you can't afford a trip to NYC or tickets to a hit show, it doesn't mean you are entitled to see it in an illegal form. If actors/directors/designers/stage managers want to see their show preserved in digital form, they can go to TOFT or ask the producer(s) to film the show for the purpose of presevation. Bootlegging is the utmost disrespect to your fellow audience members and, really, performers on stage. The last thing they need is (sometimes dangerous) distraction from you.

It's stupid that I'm joining the board just to say this... but I think yaoqian only took an audio recording not a video, so (I hope) yaoqian most likely wasn't holding up the phone for the whole time & disturbing other audience members? On top of that Margo you do realize that most of cast of Dear Evan Hansen has watched bootlegs of shows right? If you didn't know that, check the "Never Have I Ever" video that the cast did with broadway.com. Will mentioned Ben constantly watches Wicked bootlegs & even shares them with other cast members. A couple other people of the cast also admitted that they had watched bootleg videos of broadway shows before. Yes, I agree with you that this act is supposedly "illegal", but honestly you didn't have to lash at yaoqian in such an arrogant manner, since most people in this industry don't even obey to this "law". Anyways, I have no complaints about the fact that you have never watched a bootleg video or listened an audio recording before, keep up the good work girl!

It's annoying when people record Broadway shows and even more annoying when fans get on their high horse about it. If it's already recorded, it's already recorded, might as well let people hear it. Dave Malloy was actively encouraging people to seek out audio of his Dust and Ashes a few weeks ago. This isn't a black and white issue.

This should be framed, thank you for your awesome, beautiful words! I retract my statement about being bullied, but I still felt attacked for just talking about the law, I'm direct and blunt, but so are many men on this board, yet they get no flack for it. I am who I am, feel free to block me if necessary, I guess.
